Molly Byrne, from Arklow, who died last week at the age of 89 years, was the last surviving member of the highly respected seafaring Hickey family of 56 Lower Main Street. On Monday last week she passed away peacefully at her home, 40 South Green, in the loving care of her daughter Mary. Molly was born in 1917. She married Tom (Rock) Byrne and they lived a long and happy life together for over 50 years and reared a family of nine children who were their pride and joy. Molly possessed a strong faith, with particular devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes, which sustained her throughout her life. People will remember Molly for her happy and joyful outlook on life; she always had a kind word and compliment for everyone she met. Her death is mourned by a wide circle of relatives, friends and neighbours but especially by her devoted children - sons Ned, Johnny and Tommy; daughters Ann, Mary. Liz, Jackie and Tricia (Angela died a couple of years ago); 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and good friends Tom and Kathleen Carroll. Wicklow People Thursday Feb 23rd 2006
