Hi Cara Thanks for getting back to me. It's been several years since I've been in contact with most of the family - though as part of my recent research I have been back in touch with Tom Allen's niece in Melbourne, but she is not on email. Tom Allen's mother was Frances Hanbidge (1865-1932) and his sister was Elizabeth Eleanor Mabel Allen who married John Lighton Synge, the physicist, and her family is well documented. One of her daughters is Cathleen Morawetz, a well-renowned mathematician in the US. Tom & his brother Ivan's army service records are in the UK National Archives in Kew and I don't think there's anything to research with respect to the Army in Ireland - and Tom ended his days in England in 1959. I think the family was Protestant - though whether the Coates family was too, I don't know. Thanks for getting in touch - and I look forward to hearing more! -- Cheers Andrew www.groupphoto.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 19, 2009 1:53 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] ALLEN family in Baltinglass connected to First WorldWar group photograph >A grand idea - Is it possible to add some of this data you have gleaned to >my Co Wicklow data base, or at least place me in contact with someone from >the family > And as far as Graveyards are concerned in Wicklow - well then you are > talking to the right person on those for the area > > But your best look for the Army people is in a set of Volumes with black > and white covers in the Dublin Library > > Anyway guess you will glean something from this list if anyone decides to > share, I myself have the name Allen in my Co Wicklow Data base > Coates family came from Preban and you dont say what religion so I am in > no mans land on this at the moment .......... > > > Well I sure do have this family in my data base already > they married at Aghold Co Wicklow Ireland 18/6/1851 and I have Anthony > born 12/3/1872 at Dunlavin Co Wicklow Irealnd Thomas Allens father was > John Allen > > I will now have to sort this out with what else I have put in the file but > not married to the family --------- > > Barbara Dowling should write to you shes a buff on Dagg name search also. > > Also what was the Mothers name DO you know this ? > > I may have collected the headstone but she may be buried under her maiden > name as oft happened in Ireland > > > Cheers for now > Cara > List Admin
