Dear Listers, I am trying to find out where my greatgrandfather, Lawrence Waters, was born. It would have been around 1844. He joined the army in 1856, enlisting in Trim. Giving his birth year as 1840, he would have received the bounty of a man instead of that for a boy. He then went abroad and was only back in Ireland for a short spell of duty in 1876. The three indications I have for his year of birth are on his marriage certificate, 1871 census and death certificate. They all indicate a birth year of 1844. His marriage and death certificates state that his father's name was James and that he was a clerk. His eldest child's christian names were Kathleen Jane Etheridge (Kathleen after his mother or a sister? Jane Etheridge were his mother's christian names). His children were baptized by the roman catholic army chaplain. Have any of you come across Lawrence? Yours sincerely, Anne Vinnicombe
