Hi I am researching a First World War group photograph. One of the men in the picture was Thomas Edward Allen who was born in Kiltegan near Baltinglass in County Wicklow. For each of the men in my picture I am trying to get a bigger picture of who they were, where their families came from and what has happened to their family since, including their grandparents, parents and brothers and sisters (for more background on my project see www.groupphoto.co.uk). I have been in touch with his grandson and a couple of his nieces and have got quite a lot of information about him and his family, but I would like to fill in some gaps with respect to his grandparents and two of his brothers. In particular I am after the following: 1.. Dates of birth and death for his father's parents Thomas Allen and Elizabeth nee Dagg. I know that they were married at Coolkenno on 18 Jun 1851 and both were of full age - he was a farmer from Kilbaylet, son of John Allen, a farmer - and she was from Coolkenno daughter of Robert Dagg, a farmer. I have also been told that Thomas Allen lived to be 96. I also know that they had three sons, Robert (the father of Thomas in my photo) who was born in 1861, James who was born 2 Aug 1867 at Kilbellett, & Anthony who was born 12 Mar 1872 2.. Confirmation of date of death of his mother's father William Hanbidge. His dates have been given to me as born 1823, died 1890 but I can't find the death in the register index. 3.. Anything about his brothers: Robert Kendal Allen (known as Bertie) was born in Sep 1894 and is supposed to have married a Miss Coates and was known to be alive in the '30s but was not in touch with the rest of the family from then on, & Ivan Wellesley Allen born in May 1899 and died young (possibly in the '30s) as a result of ill health caused by gas inhalation in the war. I'm thinking of going over to Ireland to look in archives and graveyards some time later this year, but if some kind soul has any thoughts that might steer me in the right direction or answer any of my questions, I'd be very grateful. -- Thank you, Andrew in Norfolk, UK www.groupphoto.co.uk
