Jack, thanks for the reply, No have never heard of our Walsh family in Newfoundland. Wouldn't say they didn't as I am struggling to find info on them even in Kilkenny. My Walsh's didn't come to Austalia by choice. Matthew my gr.grandfather, was the first to arrive and from what I can find he was a rebel and was stripped of his name and exiled here in Sydney. He then after a short time somehow owned property the Sydney Suburbs and sent for the rest of his family. His parents James Walsh & Ann Conron, his brothers John, Martin, and his sister Anne (who we lost in Sydney) There was one brother, Patrick, who either didn't want to come or was deceased prior to the start of the migration 1859-1865. Family stories and the pages from the family bible which came with James tell us more names but have yet been able to find them in Muckalee/Kilkenny records. The story is that he was not registered on the convict ship as he didn't exist, and took the name Walsh back on arrival in Sydney. It is a family story full of holes. One part that has been proved was the fact that when stripped of all he owned the money was placed in Chancery. His son Patrick, my grandfather, did try to get the money from Chancery through legal claim in the 1930's from Sydney but the cost would have made the exercise non viable financially. Stories, stories. They are great to hear but hard to prove.
