Bill, If you go to the Irish Times website page which enumerates the frequency of family names in Ireland circa 1890, you may get some idea of where the families originated. _http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID_ (http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID) = Based on this info, you can go to the _www.rootsireland.ie_ (http://www.rootsireland.ie) website and search for Harold/Herald/Herold etc church baptism indexes and the Cook/Cooke church baptism indexes for those counties. I did not find an Edward Herald(etc) listing. Looks like the families likely came from the northern counties. On the Rootsireland website, the search is free. If you find what you think is a match, to view each record is 5 Euros, whether it is the correct record or not. Since there are certain counties where these families resided (northern counties), you might try checking Griffiths Valuation for these counties (i.e. Donegal). Though your gr grandparents were already gone from Ireland, many of the given names were repeated from generation to generation and thus may give you some additional clues as to where the family resided before they left for the US. I am assuming a possible birth year of Edward and Mary Ann of 1815-1820
