On November 2, Cara asked to be 'unconfused' about the Masseys. I will do my best ... <James Blakeney Massey and Harriet Chapman 1- George Blakeney Massey born Delgany 29th May 1868 2-Anne Massey born 29th May 1868 Delgany 3-Harriet Massey born 5th December 1873 ( Married When ?)> James and Harriet are MINE - my great great grandparents. James is a son of George Massey and Ann Mahon. James and Harriet were married on 6 May 1867 at St. Kevin's Church, Dublin. Their third child was William, my great grandad, born 28 Jan 1872 (in the Delgany records). Harriet was the fourth child, died in infancy. James was a land steward and they moved to Kerry, Cork and Wexford and had five more children. <Richard Massey and Anne Donnelly 1- Dora Massey born Newcastle 6/8/1868 2-William Massey born 2/7/1871 Delgany ( Married When?)> Richard and James B are related - I think James is a cousin of Richard's father. Richard and Anne married on 24 Dec 1860 in Taney, Dublin. Their children included: Katherine (1864), Marianne (1866), Dora (1868) William (1871), Samuel Richard (1874). <Thomas James Whitton son of Daniel married Jane Massey daughter of Edward 31/5/1862 Delgany at this marriage for a Jane father is listed as George Massey of Delgany> This Jane Massey is the daughter of Edward Massey. My notes of their marriage are as follows: "1862 May 31 Thomas James Whitton farmer of Windgates son of Daniel Whitton farmer, married Jane Massey of Newtown ??{Vevay?] parish of Bray daughter of Edward Massey farmer married at Delgany." <But to add further mystery to my own files there is another Jane a daughter of Edward who married Edward Massey son of Edward She was aged 22 and her groom aged 26. and daughter of George Massey.> This Jane Massey is a sister of James Blakeney Massey and the daughter of George. Jane was born 30 November 1834. My guess (unproven) is that her groom Edward Massey had a sister Jane Massey and their father was Edward. Jane and Edward junior emigrated to London, Ontario, Canada to join other Wicklow rellies. They did not seem to have any children are both are buried in London, Ontario. My notes say: "1855 May 19, Edward Massy 26 farmer of Templecarrig son of Edward Massy farmer married Jane Massy 22 of Redford daughter of George." <So is there two families with fathers named Edward? one who has Edward who then married Jane Massey daughter of George ( yes I am repeating myself) but I have myself confused at the moment> I think there is one Edward father but there are two Jane Masseys - one is Edward's daughter and one is George's daughter. Cheers, Annie
Hi list I know I've put this query up before, but here it is again ........ My gg-grandfather, John Byrne (wife Dorothy Fitzpatrick), born c. 1840 (probably) in Arklow, drowned at sea. He was a fisherman. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea when or where (except that it had to be after 1869/70)! One of his sons (John jnr or Michael) is also supposed to have been drowned at sea, but NOT in the same incident. Again, no idea where/when, but Michael was born 1870, and John jnr c. 1867. I've browsed different sites over the years, but never found anything. Can anybody point me in the right direction?? Thanks in advance Colette
Hello Colette, I am sorry I have take a little longer to answer this for you, but I have had a mail problem so if any of you are reading this and wondering why my mails are slow, spare me a thought that the ISP is not behaving, and sometimes mails get out, sometimes they are bouncing back to people and others times I get a day like this where a good strong drink ( tea) and a yelling match with the computer has it working its pants off and behaving. Your Question Colette at last:- Firstly as you hae such a common name is going to have to be in the end a costly exercise in you buying the death certificates from the GRO, but if anyone else on here is researching ANY John Byrne, could you at least contact Colette, and adise her if any of the men I am about to list may not be her men. BURIALS Arklow of Fisherman 1- John Byrne 28/11/1911 Last resided Well Lane was a Fisherman /Married aged 50 Accidently killed off Arklow Harbour--- ( There was another lister long time back asking about this man cannot recall who now sorry) Please allow that the ages do not always match the birthdate or the headstones 2- John Byrne 4/5/1908 Last resided Coolgreany Road was a fisherman and a widower aged 63 3-John Byrne 4/8/1908 last resided Dublin was a fisherman and a widower aged 71 Now a Michael Byrne was lost aboard the Schooner "Mary Agnes" owner was a James Horan no age 1909 and he was a seaman. I, of course have contacts in Arklow ( family and friends) that are linked to the sea and may be able to ask them for some assistance in sorting which Byrne family you may be looking for, but with not much to go on it may be an area where they will be shing their heads. But I will send an Email to my friends and family and see what they may be able to turn up for me This at least shows you that someone is reading your mail Take care Cara I use BullGuard Spamfilter to keep my inbox clean.
