I have the birth certificate of my grandfather John Doyle, born in 1888 in Wicklow. THe informant is listed as Susan Doyle who was present at birth. My grandfather had a sister named Susan. She would have been 15 at the time of the birth. Can anyone tell me if she was too young to be listed as an informant on a certificate, or did age not matter to a point? Many thanks, Pauline
She may have been present and only in the house at time of Birth Pauline, another factor was these girls were old beyond their years, of course it may well have been another Susan DOyle present at birth, but me thinks she was there helping, she may have gone on to be good at birthing babes in the district. etc etc. Age is only a number so I would have to say at 15 she was close to being married off so she would have been of use, and was being used at this birth.
