After much research, I have found that my GGGrandfather Laurence Higgins was born on 5/2/1832 in Ballynatone, Blessington and married in Wicklow on 16/8/1854 to an Alicia Bradford born 25/5 1832 in Wicklow. On the record of marriage it shows Laurence¹s parents were Michael Higgins and Margaret Walsh. Alicia¹s father was a Robert Bradford. 1. Is any other subscriber researching these families? 2. Can anyone suggest how I might be able to find the births, deaths or marriages of Michael and Margaret as well as Robert Bradford? Any help would be appreciated. Colin Whyte from sunny South Australia.
Hi Colin At the IFHF (pay site) there are 7 baptisms for children born in Wicklow with father Robert Bradford. They may or may not be "your" Robert. To buy all of these baptisms together would cost you €20. One of them may give the mother's name. after which you could search the site for his marriage. At the same site there are 3 baptisms between the years of 1816-1834 of children in Blessington born to Michael Higgins & Mgt. Walsh. I couldn't find a marriage for this couple. Robert Bradford & Michael Higgins are noted in Griffiths Valuation http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch. Good luck! G'day Colin, I'm also searching for details about a Higgins family from Wicklow, my wife's GG grandparents were Patrick Higgins and Janes Hughes from Dunganstown, about four or five miles from the town of Wicklow. They had a family of seven children as far as I can determine, they were Sarah, Thomas, Mary Jane, Annie, Anthony Mark, James and Michael. In shipping documents Patrick is described as a Farmer. I don't yet have any dates or exact location other than the Parish of Kilbride, that seems to be their church and a Rev. M. Moloney is listed as the R.C.Curate who would provide a reference for the person nominated in the Sponsor records. Higgins seems to be a name that pops up often in Wicklow but you have been lucky to establish actual birth and marriage dates, how did you manage to find that information. Blessington is some distance from Dunganstown, it's near the Counties of Kildare and Dublin from what I can see in my maps. Apart from my own research a descendant living in Perth has found numerous descendants connected to our Higgins family all of whom seem to have migrated to NSW, the first was Sarah arriving in Sydney in January 1873. Good luck with your searches. -----Original Message----- From: irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Colin Whyte Sent: 06 October 2011 19:55 To: IRL-WICKLOW@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Higgins After much research, I have found that my GGGrandfather Laurence Higgins was born on 5/2/1832 in Ballynatone, Blessington and married in Wicklow on 16/8/1854 to an Alicia Bradford born 25/5 1832 in Wicklow.
