    3. Dan, The records show the date the person enlisted eg 14 Oct 1853. Almost all records say single when they enlisted. The date means he got married on 11 April 1871 to a lady from County Kerry. They don't give the wife's name. Only her county. Probably because they moved them to a new county if they married a local girl. The only assignment they are showing is Monaghan which I usually spell out. 16362 WHELAN, James 21 14 Oct Wicklow C[atholic] s 11 Apr '71 Kerry Lab Mon[aghan]. 1853. He was 5'11 � There is a second page that usually tells when or how the person left the service. Died, pensioned, discharged, that sort of thing. I have not copied each of these pages, but I can check it if this is your man. You can see the image at: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/8609334/1/RIC?h=2ec764 The letters on the far right of the image have to do with promotions or something you would need to have a long list of abbreviations to figure out. I don't know what they stand for. I hope this helps.
