    3. Hi,   I just checked the Irish History Foundation website.  There is a William Headon who was born between 1810 and 1820 in Baltinglass RC Parish.  This may or may not be your William.  You have to pay for the record on this website but I think you may have to do that to rule him in or out.   Sara C.  ________________________________ From: lclark <lclark@plc.vic.edu.au> To: irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 6:09 AM Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Headon - Darcy, Wicklow Hi Cara and Janet, I'd sent a message at the end of May, and wondered if you and the other listers had received it. It was quite a difficult research question, and I'm not sure if it can be answered. Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Below is the message I'd sent. Thank you for this site. I enjoy reading about the queries. Helps build in the bits about the history of Ireland. Regards, Lesley Dear All, This is a really difficult one. Wm Headon joined the 50th Foot Queen's Own West Kent Regiment in 1833/34 and sailed to NSW in 1834 with his wife, Julia Darcy and child, Bridget Headon b about 1834, Chatham, Kent. His army records say he was from Baltinglass, Wicklow. The deal was that you signed up for seven years, could take your family with you, and then make your own way in the new country. Julia died at 39 years in 1853 in Bendigo, Victoria  (gold mining), and unfortunately the records of that time record nothing else. Wm married again, and with the birth of a child of his second family, he says he was born in Athy, Kildare, then his death certificate says he was born in Wicklow. I was at Glendalough, Wicklow, Ireland, two years ago and saw so many monuments to the Darcy family. I can't find a thing about Julia Darcy in any of the Irish records. I have found a reference to a number of births of a Wm Headon in Wicklow, !810-14 on "RootsIreland".. Headon can be translated as Heydon, Hayden etc. When I was in Ireland two years ago, I knew very little, not even if they were Catholic or Protestant. They were Catholic. According to the National Library of Australia's collection of newspapers (Trove), a Sydney paper records Julia Headon about 1836, donating 2/6 to the building of St Mary's Cathedral. When Wm had left the army in 1841, and had become a shepherd on the Snowy River, both their sons were baptised by Father Michael Kavanagh in 1847 and 1849, such an isolated place. Their four daughters, who were born before, baptised in Sydney, must have been with them. I would welcome any advice about this family and how to find a connection with Ireland.  I'm not sure if it is possible. Any thoughts would be very much welcomed! 3. Hi dear listers, For a very long time now we have been posting notices that new headstone inscriptions are now available on the IGP website. It has finally dawned on me that unless we post the inscriptions first here on Rootsweb so that the surnames can be picked up by the Rootsweb search engine, we are doing the current and all future members of Rootsweb a great disservice. They are after all our host and allow us to post messages here free. So, to all who work with IGP or any similar organization, you can still post messages here as usual, but if it involves text information [not just photos], the text must be posted here on this list first and then you can note that the same information will also be available on, for example, IGP. This will apply to any list for which I am an administrator. My Co-administrator concurs 100%. If you have any questions, please contact me directly. Cara

    3. Hi Peggy Thank you SO MUCH for this marriage info - I'm thrilled!! The couple DID have 3 other children besides Dorothy (Mary 7 Aug 1844; Moses Mar 1847; Anne 16 Sept 1849), but they were christened with surname PATRICK, which is why I couldn't find them for years. I found a baptism on IFHF for Mary Anne Horan, 8 May 1821 at Rock, Arklow - parents Robert Horan and Anne Carthy. Of course, I have no way of telling if this is "my" Mary Horan, but the age could be about right. Thanks again - your help is much appreciated. Previous research had shown me that Killarney Cottage was west of Periwinkle Rocks. Searched Lewis's for Bray 1837 and found Crompton mentioned. He is also listed in the Landed Estate records. Can anyone suggest how this information might lead me to more information about Henry Higginson please ? Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney
