    1. Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Mannering
    2. Carla, thank you so much for answering! Here is what I have gathered--a cousin found the names of Bill and Mary Mannering on a Wicklow list--she does not know what it was--it sounds as if perhaps they were witnesses at a marriage there being two sets of names side by side on a list!! My grandfather--James Joseph Mannering--born Co Carlow in 1885--the son of William and Mary Walsh--they had 4 children according to the census--my grandfather--brother Patrick--sister Elizabeth--and one more--I had only known my grandfather and Patrick--I got in touch with Father Whelan at Parochial House in Ballon--he sent me birth and bapstimal records of James, Patrick and Elizabeth--there are no records of William and Mary's marriage or deaths there. I put the info on the Wicklow list in case "someone-somewhere" may have heard of Bill and Mary!!! As to the Mannering vs. Manning--there are quite a few Mannerings in the US and I have been in touch with a couple in Ireland--all of us trying to find our "beginings"!!! Thank you for any insight you may have.

    3. Under the spelling of Mainwaring I can produce a few folk but none under Mannering, I am really going with Paul on this one, the spelling down through Time no doubt has had some very weird spellings. Let me know what you think or if indeed you would like them, be much easier If you told the list the name of the people Christian names ages years etc, then it becomes of an interest to them Cheers Cara

    3. Carole If someone would like to download a copy of the Joseph Holt Memoirs Vol 11, they can just Google the above and read through the links. It is completely easy. The only downside is that there are many blank pages to scroll through before the actual printing starts. Not sure about Vol 1, maybe not available on line. I think I dowloaded in PDF, not sure of that though. regards Paddy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carole Parkes" <carolec55@talktalk.net> To: <irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2012 8:53 AM Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Manning > Manning was the name of General Joseph Holt's mother-in-law. 3. Yes Paddy the memoirs Vol 1 are on line too. That is where I read them. In volume 1 General Joseph Holt outlines his immediate family, however in the www.joseph-holt.org website there is a lot of discussion about whether this information is completely accurate or a smokescreen to hide his siblings from the backlash of retribution after 1798. He refers to his father John and his brothers John, Thomas, Joshua, William and Johnathon, also a sister Mary. No baptism records have ever been found of a father John baptising these children. He also says his father John died in 1785. We have however found a father Joseph with children of these names and he died 3/3/1785 and was buried at Castlemacadam, the exact day and place his father John was supposed to have died and be buried. The General's wife was Hestor (Esther) Long, a widow who was originally a Manning. Carole
