    1. CULLEN . . .
    2. Speaking of Cullens, I am interested in an Ellen Cullen, who was born at Coolahullin, Ballintemple, County Wicklow in 1847. Her parents were James Cullen and Bridget Merrigan. Ellen married John Stakem in 1871. They emigrated to America within a year or two. Any connections or help? Thanks. Bob Thompson

I am new to the list so not sure if I am doing this correctly. Through the internet I have found 3 directly related cousins that I now keep in touch with and we have been able to fill in so much of our family in Canada and are now hoping to make connections to the Wicklow clan. Cara has kindly provided some info which unfortunately we can't seem to connect to however as a result I have joined the list, thank you Cara so much. Here's hoping. As soon as the grandchildren go home and I am not on travel for business will post more. Please let me know that I am accessing the list correctly before I do so. 1. LIST ADMINISTRATOR
    2. Shirley Parker
    3. Dear Cara, Thanks for your email this morning with subject on being a List Admin. Firstly, I would like to say that I pay tribute to you for being such a caring, helpful person, giving so much of your time sharing with those of the list with Wicklow ancestors. I have had much help from you myself with suggestions and information but unfortunately, and probably due to my lack of real understanding of how to connect information, I am still muddling on and endeavouring to find more details. My grandmother, Catherine KEOGH married John Shannon at St.Marys Cathedral, Sydney on 18 January, 1867 and from the copy of their marriage cert. I have Catherine's parents as Dermot Keogh and Anne Toomey of County Kildare. I have the Griffiths Val. for KEOGH and find many names there but don't know how to find the correct line. Many KEOGH's have come to Australia and I have found them living around the Glebe and inner city suburbs. My grandmother, Catherine KEOGH came to Australia in 1862 on the "Northumberland" and with her on the same ship is her brother, John KEOGH. Catherine is shown as coming from Wicklow whilst John is shown as Hollywood, Wicklow. Their brother Patrick came to Sydney on "British Trident" in 1861 and on the Deposit Journals I found that he had paid the deposit for Catherine and John. He is shown as having an occupation of Policeman on the shipping list. Years back I had help from a person on a list who went to a lot of trouble to find the nearest church to the KEOGH address and gave me the name of the parish, Naas where they would have belonged. I did write the Parish Priest asking if he could give me wedding details for Dermot and Anne KEOGH (Toomey) but had no reply. Later on I found an Anne KEOGH as being a landowner in the Griffiths Vals. and then found that after then, Anne KEOGH came to Sydney and is shown as living in the same area as many other KEOGH's. My mother was the last born of eight children to Catherine KEOGH, my mother being one of twins, the other dying at birth. I have found a lot of information on the family in Glebe, NSW but have never been able to find Dermot or Anne Toomey in Ireland. Catherine died when my mother was about 6years of age and was reared by her father who was a CAB Prop. with stables in the Glebe. I have submitted these details to lists, earlier but have had no replies except from you. Best wishes, Cara, and I avidly await all list correspondence in the hope of finding more details. Shirley Parker. (Australia)

    1. JOYS OF BEING LIST ADMIN
    2. Cara_Links
    3. I do enjoy being a list admin, but along with that comes hidden joys, I learn of many things not learnt via what we call the front of the list, so therefore I am kept up to date on wonderful thing, sad times and I feel really happy that this has been shared with me. I learn who is writing to whom, and what advancement they have made in their research, I get told that it is my fault that people cannot find their townlands, indeed even their ancestors.I do smile at this one. I am asked to sub people, unsub their old address because they have a new one ( I having no idea what the old one was). I am often sent some wonderful spam, do you need to increase your vital parts ( dont have the necessary part) so no I dont, and of late its *girls wishes to meet you for a date* ( not interested). Contend with all the bouncing email because some one went off on Holidays and forgot to empty their mail box, or worse still and auto answer that goes on and on forever when ever someone posts a mail. I worry about the listers who because of illness have left the list, I wonder why with over a list of 300 people we dont hear of more names being researched, I learn that some prefer to write behind the list instead of sharing down the front, thus losing the personal touch of adding a friend or a cousin to that researching file. In fact I am now aware that there is three people on the list researching the same name, but they have never hooked up, and I see that as a shame, but thats the way of the quirky nature of humans. And privacy is always strictly adhered to by myself. I have learnt we need to read more books, get up and get into the library, I have indeed since becoming list admin lost a most treasured friend from this list, and she is now sitting somewhere looking down on Ireland and saying to her rellies, one more registers and you are getting warmer. I have learnt that we dont ask enough questions of one another, and I appreciate all input into this list from anyone, after all everyone has an oppinion and none more so than Cara...........I can see you all there now saying yes she does, but my oppinion is not necesarily the best one. We have listers from New Zealand, Tasmania, Australia, America and England, and any I have missed I would be happy to hear from.We have Retirees, Honary Librarians, Authors, ex railway workers, Chefs, and all are budding genealogists, all seeking the piece of Ireland we would all love to get our hands on those ellusive ancestors. Well heres my oppinion for what its worth now, not much on todays market I can assure you, time to lift our game and get the list rolling again, and see if we can find those lost ancestors Cheers from Cara

    1. REDMOND, CULLEN, & LACEY/Leacy
    2. Dear Cara and Listers, I had posted this reponse back in May of 2004. REDMOND and PHILLIPS are are both connected to my LACEY, later in USA spelled LEACY, family. I am guessing that they are siblings and/or cousins while keeping in mind that they might not be related at all, although unlikely. James Joseph LACEY, have no record of his parents, mother possibly Jenny? Catherine Mary CULLEN, believe she was the child of Patrick CULLEN and Bridget ROARK born 12 Sept., 1865 Ovoca, Co. Wicklow, according to the IGI from LDS. I would like to hear of any possible connections. Also, according to the record below, would Mounthoward be where James LACEY was living at the time? Thank you for your help. =========================================================== I'm curious about your REDMONDs. I have the name connected to my LACEY / LEACY family but cannot connect them biologically. My great great grandparents were from the Wicklow/Wexford area. I have a coy from the Curate dated 22 June, 2000 that testifies that: "Parish of Litter, Diocese of Ferns EXTRACT FROM THE MARRIAGE REGISTER James LACEY and Catherine CULLEN were married in the Church of St. Moling (sp?), Monamolin Gorey, Co. Wexford according to the Rite of the Catholic Church, on the 20th day of February 1884. The Witnesses were Peter REDMOND and Elizabeth CULLEN." I also have a copy for a baptismal listing for James & Catherine's first born, Miles: "Diocese of Ferns Parish of Litter On examination of the Register of Baptisms of above Parish I certify that according to it Miles LACEY was born on 2 day of December 1884, and was baptised according to th Rites of the Catholic Church on 2 day of December 1884 in the Church of St. Moling (sp?) 2. Stacy Kilts
    3. Oh Cara, are you so right! I read your JOYS OF BEING LIST ADMINISTRATOR today. We lose so many opportunities to find out about our relatives, not just the genealogical statistics but also the stories of their growing up together, their memories of parents, uncles, cousins that can give us a fuller picture of our past. I lost my father Wednesday night. John O'Toole, 64, was the youngest child of Francis and Margaret (Collins) O'Toole of New Rochelle, NY. Francis was a son of Patrick O'Toole and Winifred McDonald who came from Wicklow to New Rochelle in the late 1890's. It was you who helped me find Patrick's father, LUKE TOOLE of Aughrim whose wife was Brigid Bolger. More chances to ask him his memories of growing up gone forever. If I had never gotten into researching the family tree, I would have missed out on many stories that my father did tell me in the past couple years since I was bitten by the genealogy bug. I will cherish them, record them to pass down to my children and will continue to reach back and complete that tree as best I can in his memory. Stacy Kilts

    2. I admire you Cara for taking on the task you have, I do read the digest religiously, hoping one day I might find another HEPENSTALL or COVENTRY post and help me fill in the gaps on my family. I have made contact with 5 of the seven siblings families my Grandfather had, and all of us never knew there were 7 children. This alone has been through this list and great help the Late Nancy Seals, she steered me in the right direction. I hope all's well in Tassie Cara, not heard from the Coventry rellies there in a while. Cheers mate, Pam Landy (in hurricane torn Gulf Coast of Florida)

    3. Hi Sheila, I am not researching Plunkett ( as far as I know) but as I have mentioned previously there are lots of information about the Drivers on the Ellis Island Website and later on The US Census. My interest concerns The Benjamin Driver marriage to Susan Jackson in 1862 and the two witnesses: Jacob JACKSON (my husbands Ggrandfather I guess, as he was Susan Jackson's Uncle) & Richard HAWKINS ( who might be related to the Jacksons) Benjamin & Susan Driver emigrated to America about 1891 after their children had grown up. Some of the children seem to have stayed in Ireland and some joined their parents in America. Anyone researching the Hawkins will find a lot of information on The FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File. I hope some of this will help somebody. I hope to find out more about Jacob JACKSON and his father Peter JACKSON. Best wishes from New Zealand on a lovely springmorning Inga. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Johnston" <sjohnston17@yahoo.ca> To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 30, 2005 8:03 AM Subject: [Wicklow] Re: DRIVER / PLUNKETT > Hi Cara, > Was there mention of Thomas Plunkett's father's name on the marriage below? > > <snip>Ann Driver daughter of George married Thomas Plunkett 4/11/1851 at Aghold Co Wicklow Ireland > Clergyman was Robert Wilbourne Source GRO DUBLIN > > Thanks, > Sheila J > London, Ontario > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Find your next car at Yahoo! 2. Hi Listers... Long time no see! Well, I've sort of given up looking for my Weadicks, but I have a friend hunting for any information on one Thomas Troy/Tray who lived in Arklow, Co. Wicklow in the mid to late 1800s (at least). He was a prominent businessman and politician, probably living in the Ferrybank area of the town. He may have been born c. 1818, and could have had a wife named Mary. Any snippet of information on any Thomas Troy would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Peggy Leonard/NY
