    1. ALCOCK/HAWKINS - Trip to Ireland
    2. Hello Listers This fall I will be making my first trip to Ireland after several year of working on family history, and am trying to prepare by getting the family research in order. I have questions for the more experienced and those who have visited the Wicklow area.. Are there C of I in most communities and would records be kept locally? Do most churches have cemeteries attached? As far as the Griffith Valuation and other census substitutes, is my best source the National Library in Dublin? Are there other local sources? What help can I expect from the Wicklow family history centre - I have read conflicting reports on their service. Do they actually have records there? Are there other places I should put on my list for investigation [town halls and local libraries?]Any help the list can provide to help me get the most from the trip would be appreciated. I don't have much information about my ggg grandparents. He George ALCOCK born about 1770-1790, married about 1811 in Ireland, may have emigrated about 1843 and died before 1861 either in Ireland or Ontario. She Anne HAWKINS born 1794, emigrated 1843 to Ontario, died after 1861. Their offspring: William Frederick b. 1811, possibly in Wicklow, emigrated with wife Mary GRIFFITH and several children who were born in Antrim in 1852 to Ontario George b. abt 1813 Wicklow, may have stayed in Ireland Sarah b abt 1815 ? Thomas Moody b Nov 30 1818 Wicklow emigrated about 1842, Ontario Mary Ann b 1819 Wicklow emigrated Ontario Richard Beecham b 1822 Carlow emigrated Ontario about 1842, married Frances POLLARD in 1852 in Ont. she born Hacketstown, Carlow Susanna b 1831 Wicklow emigrated Ontario Any suggestions welcome. thanks, Terri Alcock

Shelton is a separate townland from Shelton Abbey townland - although they are abutting. Why not That mystery line they call the County line winds and wends its way through wherever it likes after all some people possibly can have breakfast in Carlow and Lunch In Wicklow they didnt move the houses to place the line in did they ? In fact there is many places where you can put one foot in Carlow and one In Wicklow so perhaps this mystery county line is the problem Brian Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "BrianO" <broulig@fastmail.fm> To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2006 10:07 AM Subject: [Wicklow] Hackettstown > Does anyone know why Hackettstown is in 2 counties, Carlow & Wicklow. > Brian O. > > > -- > BrianO > broulig@fastmail.fm > > -- > http://www.fastmail.fm - Same, same, but different… > > ----- Original message ----- > From: "slstrick" <slstrick@verizon.net> > To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 08:34:31 -0500 > Subject: [Wicklow] Gutenberg Project Books that mention Wicklow > > Hi All, > An email on another list mentioned the www.gutenberg.org project which > puts online books that are outside of copyright restrictions. > So I thought I would see what is there and was delighted to find many > old books for reading.
