    1. CRITCHLEY FAMILY
    2. Cara_Links
    3. Of course Joy you mean John and Michael and the rest of the family that ended up in South Australia and you do know of course that a book about those boys is about to be released. Data on the family in Co Wicklow is like hen's teeth and whilst they appear on the Griffiths valuation with the emmigration of the Critchley boys to England to take up mining there, and others leaving for South Australia - the family name seems to have died out very fast. All the childrens births have been located that were baptised in Avoca Co Wicklow, but where they begin in time would be of interest to myself, I see oneCritchley member is located at Laragh, and others in and around Although a Judge Critchley does have a family in Bray and I suspect but have not proven that he married into the Bookey family which were another Legal family I have located Joseph Critchley buried in Co Wicklow but need to look at that more to see if he is the father of these boys knowing it and proving it will of course be another challenge. There of course if more data but as I have to now race of and pick up the grandchildren I will have to go into that at another time Cheers for now Cara

    3. Good morning Joy, I found the Slaters 1846 directory through the on line directories at the Waterford Library. http://www.waterfordcountylibrary.ie/library/web It takes some time to go through them and I don't suppose everyone is listed but I was lucky as they were in Wicklow Town. Smaller towns may not be listed. Someone on the list may be kind enough to do a look up for you if you cannot find it there. 1. Parkers Butcher of Wicklow
    2. Jan and Geoff Addison
    3. Hello Listers, I am seeking information about the Parker Family who had a butchers/victuallers shop in Wicklow Town. The Griffith's Valuation shows John PARKER in Main St. He is listed in the Slaters 1846 directory as a butcher in Market Square and in the 1861 he's in Main Street. The following four of his children (all born in Wicklow) were still living in Main St. in the 1901 Census with the sons being recorded as butchers. Catherine born c. 1856, Martha 1860, John 1864, Peter 1867. They are all unmarried in the 1901. Their sister (my g.grandmother) Elizabeth Parker b. 1857 married Robert Newbold and came to Australia in 1881. Does anyone have connections with or know of this family who obviously had a business in Wicklow Town for many years. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Jan Addison Perth, Western Australia.

Hi Dave, This passage was written by my great grandfather (George Nicholas Wilson) and is quite convoluted...it's difficult in places to figure out to whom he is referring, but here goes! "I was born on the 21st day of March 1880, grandson of Nicholas Willoughby or Rathdrum County, Wicklow, Ireland, a successful farmer and general dealer, and cousin of Lady Superintendent of the Royal Hospital for Incurables, Donnybrook, Dublin. She was an outstanding personality in her day and cousin to George Willoughby who was at that time Superintendent of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, and nephew to a royal, thrice married lady (royal in character, appearance, and accomplishment), the former Miss Saul of Rathdrum. She was a daughter of a wealthy land owner and farmer, one of whose husbands was my uncle Tom Wilson, whom she said was the only gentleman she ever met." Hope you get something out of that! Deb

    1. obtaining certificates from Bray
    2. I need to obtain my mother's birth certificate. She was born in Bray (Bray Head I think) but the family then moved to England. I did obtain my grandmother's birth certificate but have now forgotten how to do so. I'm now hoping that there is an online method as I live in England. Thank you. Anna Thomas
