    3. Cara, Have a wonderful time tramping around the cemeteries! You mentioned Twamley, Codd and Chamney research of Cronelea. Now I don't know where Cronelea is but I have Codd relations that married into my Hawkins line in Kiltegan and Donoghmore, if that would be any help. I'm not actively researching the line. Anway William Codd married Susan Hawkins who was born 1889 and they had five children: Sue 1919 (I'm pretty sure this is the Codd whose funeral I went to when I was in Ireland in 1999) said funeral in Donaghmore Church (CofI). Other children Mary Ann, b 1920,, Gladys b 1922, Joe b 1924 and Sam b 1926. Not sure if any of these are still alive. A good resource on the Codds of this area would be Nora Hanbidge of Kiltegan Then on the Hawkins lines several researchers have been trying to prove descent from this one gentlemen John Hawkins b. ca 1725 who married an Elizabeth Coad b ca 1728. They had Roger, William, John b ca 1750, Fanny and Thomas b 1768. Now my line of Hawkins's goes back to a John buried at St. Peter's Church in Kiltegan whose grave ledger says "Erected by Thomas and George Hawkins in memory of their beloved father John Hawkins late of Mungoduff who departed this life 29 Aug 1824 aged 7?. " When I was there I could not decide what the second numeral was on this age - which would give me a birth year. So if you happen to be in Kiltegan cemetery looking for Codds/Coads it would be great to have you check it out. This grave is to the right as you face the church but this request is only if you happen to be there anyway. Have a wonderful trip! Shirley Williams shirleyadw@littlebrook.com

    1. Re: [Wicklow] RE: CRITCHLEY FAMILY
    2. Hello Shane, I can tell you the little I know of my Critchleys. John married Ellen Kavanagh in 1826 and had 7 known children. They left on the Marshall Bennett from Liverpool in November, 1851. They arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia, on Feb. 2, 1852. From the ship's manifest I have the following list of names: John Critchley (49) Ellen (Kavanagh) Critchley (43) James (23) his wife Elizabeth (22) John (21) Michael (19) Henry (16) Anastasia (13) Patrick (11) Richard (5) and, on the manifest, Patrick (19) altho I think this might be an error. You mention Michael. The Michael who emigrated with his family described above married Catherine Nolan of Callington on March 1, 1862. At this time, I only have two children for this Michael: Ellen (1864) and Michael (1885). This does not sound right-21 years difference.in age. Then in March 1883 a daughter Rose Mary was born to a William Critchley and Margaret (Taggart) Critchley in Kanmantoo, so William must be one of several children of Michael and Catherine that I don't know about. Re the book, I have asked Cara about it, too. If you know the other children of Michael and Catherine Nolan, could you give me the names. Thanks in advance. Joy

    3. Dear Listers I am able to tell you now that I am off to Ireland, to do some researching, I will remain as your list admin, and hopefully I will be able to gather some more useful information to share with the list, or if its not useful to you then delete it. My aim is to go headstone hunting, again, cant help myself, must be because I have rocks in my head, ( some agree ) I will be researching Fenton's in Dunlavin, and so that should make the lister happy who has family there, but of course I need reminding of who is looking in this area? I am researching Twamley and Codd and Chamney of Cronelea, thats been an ongoing research for ten years, hopefully I will be able to fine tune some of that. I will be meeting some listers from some of the lists at various times and look forward to that, and it appears they are also. I am doing Forde of the Coolgreaney area border of Wicklow and Wexford and of course I cannot forget I am seeking the very unusual name of Toole and O'Toole in Co Wicklow ( boy does anyone think that is easy whew!!) Then Of course I have a few bits to fine tune on the Critchley details, and in amongst that I will be paying a visit to Castlemacadam and Avoca and on and on she can go. And if listers are interested I will file a weekly report for release to the list on and where I have been and what useful information is available So those of you who care, I leave Tasmania on Thursday the 17th and can be reached at cara_links@yahoo.com Cracker will be unsubbing just before she leaves Tasmania and the above address will be the one to contact me on. Good luck in your research and keep on asking those pertinent questions. Cara

    1. Re: [Wicklow] CRITCHLEY FAMILY
    2. Sorry Joy after all the work I have put into this research I dont think you are the only one that can say "MY CRITCHLEY'S" as they do link into my only family research in the end . As I said who can say whether its Joseph John Jack or Jill who is the father of Michael and John and Mary? my certificate says Margaret Cavana or in this world of soundex and changes of spelling Kavanagh. And as far as following the naming pattern for this family, I think you can toss that out the door the prominent name to re occur is in fact the name Ananstasia to who you link as well. Yes the book will be for sale, but that is a subject that is not allowed on this list so when it appears as a Critchley descendent you will be notified of its release, would you be at all interested in re-union in South Australia Joy? and for those of you who have contacted me re the Critchley folk Be patient I am getting there. When you speak of the "boys" I am assuming you mean the boys and the girl who went with their parents to South Australia via Liverpool. Their parents were John Critchley and Mary Kavanagh. No one of the descendants of these parents and children was named Joseph, so I tend to believe that Joseph may belong to another branch. I would love to know more of the book about the Critchleys which you refer to. Who wrote it, I wonder, and will it be for sale? 1. Revell Family
    2. Hello Cathy, I saw your posting on the Wicklow mailing list a couple of weeks ago and noted that you wanted to connect with anyone researching Revell. My Revell ancestors came to the U.S.A. from County Wicklow in 1849. I have done quite a lot of research and I have concluded that there were many, many Revells in Wicklow and it is very difficult connecting them up. My great-great-grandfather was also named James Revell; he was born in 1803, married Elenor Brass (easier to substantiate in Wicklow), and came to America with ten children, the eldest of whom was my great-grandfather John Revell. I have never been able to find out the names of James's parents. One source says he was born in Redcross, but that is unsubstantiated. That is where at least two of his children were born, though. Anyway, it is interesting to speculate that the two Jameses may have been related. Do you have any more details? Suzanne Revell U.S.A.

    3. Hi Cara and Joy If this is in fact the correct family that Cara points out I am certainly interested. One of Michael's children may have married into one of my ancestors lines. I have a William Critchley who married a Margaret Taggert. Could you tell me about the book please? Cheers Shane -----Original Message----- From: Cara_Links [mailto:cracker@hotkey.net.au] Sent: Saturday, 5 August 2006 5:19 PM To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com Subject: CRITCHLEY FAMILY Of course Joy you mean John and Michael and the rest of the family that ended up in South Australia and you do know of course that a book about those boys is about to be released. Data on the family in Co Wicklow is like hen's teeth and whilst they appear on the Griffiths valuation with the emmigration of the Critchley boys to England to take up mining there, and others leaving for South Australia - the family name seems to have died out very fast. All the childrens births have been located that were baptised in Avoca Co Wicklow, but where they begin in time would be of interest to myself, I see oneCritchley member is located at Laragh, and others in and around Although a Judge Critchley does have a family in Bray and I suspect but have not proven that he married into the Bookey family which were another Legal family I have located Joseph Critchley buried in Co Wicklow but need to look at that more to see if he is the father of these boys knowing it and proving it will of course be another challenge. There of course if more data but as I have to now race of and pick up the grandchildren I will have to go into that at another time Cheers for now Cara ______________________________
