    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] Extended family of Arthur and Eliza Byrne
    2. Ann Burns
    3. I am researching the family of Arthur and Elizabeth (Eliza/Bess) Byrne – nee Kehoe/Keogh. They were Fitzwilliam tenants, renting land from Richard Donoghue on the Coollattin Estate in Wicklow at the time they were evicted and given assisted passage to Canada in 1847. I have the baptisms of their four youngest children from the parish church in Clonegall – not the actual records but the listing of baptisms along with the sponsors names which recently became available on the web. [Thank you so much to whoever did all that transcribing.] Does anyone know how I might identify the parents or siblings of Arthur Byrne or Eliza Kehoe? Their children’s names were: William, Edward, Eliza, Margaret,George, Mary, Ann(e), Arthur and Jane. I’m assuming the usual family naming conventions apply since they pretty much followed them once in Canada, but it’s unclear whether William or Edward was the oldest son according to the information we have. I have access to the Fitzwilliam CD and will soon have access to the microfilm of parish records from Clonegall at the local FHS, but don’t know how, or if, I will be able to make the desired connections. 3. Thanks Joyce, but it is as I was afraid, the early records that I need to establish a link between two Hawkins lines just don't exist. A kind gentleman actually transcribed all the Donoghmore records for me one time - those to do with Hawkins anyway. But the family seems to have see-sawed between the two parishes which I know are not far apart. Some of the baptisms were at Donaghmore and others just aren't there. Plus the family seems to have chosen Kiltegan to be buried at. Thanks anyway. 3. Shirley, I'm also interested in records from Kiltegan and Donoughmore. What names are you researching? I went to Kiltegan last year, briefly, as it was pouring with rain and I was on my honeymoon! I'm researching the names Eager, Hanbidge, Dougherty, and Collins in that area. Susan.

    3. Hi Shirley The records available at RCBL for Donoughmore and Kiltegan are: Donoughmore(sic) - spelling as per list Baptisms 1720-1888 Marriages 1720-1856 Burials 1720-1929 Kiltegan Baptisms 1883-1994 Marriages 1845-1988 Burials 1879-1994 Yes, I believe that the early Kiltegan Records were lost in 1922. I needed them for a remote branch of my family, and the only way I could make progress was by searching films of birth registrations etc. at LDS Family History Centre. My information is from the 2005 List, but only more recent records might be available. 1. John Thomond OBrien commemoration
    2. The West Wicklow Historical Society hosts John Thomond O’Brien Day in Baltinglass (A Wicklow 400 Event) on Saturday 16 September 2006. South American descendants of General John Thomond O’Brien will be visiting his home town of Baltinglass on Saturday 16 September to unveil a plaque in his memory and attend the launch of a book on the town’s most famous son. Ironically, though his name has long been revered in South America, he had been forgotten in his native town until just two years ago. O’Brien was born in Baltinglass in 1786 and left as a young adult to go to London. There he heard about opportunities in South America and decided to try his fortune. In the 1810s he arrived in Buenos Aires and almost immediately became involved in the independence movement. In time he rose to become an influential military leader, being aide-de-camp to General San Martin. During his long career he was involved in mineral speculation and an attempt to encourage migrants to South America from Ireland. He made many trips to Europe. Returning from his last visit he fell ill and stopped off at Lisbon, where he died in 1861. In 1935 the Argentine government had his remains ‘repatriated’ from Lisbon to Buenos Aires. Since it was brought to the attention of the West Wicklow Historical Society by Seamus Cullen (a local historian from Donaghdee, Co. Kildare) that O’Brien was a native of Baltinglass, the WWHS has worked to reinstate his memory in the town. Extensive research revealed considerable information about his family and their circumstances in Baltinglass. His nearest surviving relations in the Baltinglass area were the O’Briens of Clough and Holdenstown, who died out in the 1950s. Copies of two brief biographies, published a century ago in Spanish, were located in Chile and these were translated. They are now being publishing in English in one volume, along with the results of the WWHS’s research on his background, as General O’Brien – from West Wicklow to South America. The book, edited by Donal McDonnell and Chris Lawlor, is entitled General O’Brien – West Wicklow to South America. It contains edited versions of biographies of O’Brien, written by Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna and Pedro Pablo Figueroa (originally published in Santiago in the first decade of the twentieth century), as translated by Fergal Morrin. The book also contains a chapter by Chris Lawlor on the political conditions in West Wicklow in the early nineteenth century, a chapter by Paul Gorry on the results of our research on the O’Brien family in Baltinglass, and chapters by Fergal Morrin on O’Brien’s career and on his descendants. Through Fergal Morrin’s research in Santiago the WWHS made contact with General O’Brien’s descendants in Chile. At least five family members will be in Baltinglass to attend the 16 September celebration. These include Salvador Valdés Pérez, a noted architect, Sergio García Valdés, founding partner of a leading Santiago law firm, and José Luis Pérez Zañartu, a former Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of Chile. John Thomond O’Brien Day is Saturday 16 September, and it is a Wicklow 400 event. The WWHS has organised a private visit for the descendants to places associated with the O’Brien family in the morning. The public events take place in the afternoon. Through the influence of Salvador Valdés, the Instituto de Conmemoración Histórica de Chile presented the plaque which the WWHS is erecting with the co-operation of the County Librarian. At 3.00pm the unveiling ceremony takes place outside Baltinglass Library, with Gerard Dunne, Chairman of WWHS, presiding. The other speakers will be Joseph Behan, Chairman of Wicklow County Council, and Salvador Valdés, who will unveil the plaque. Immediately afterwards the launch of the book General O’Brien – from West Wicklow to South America takes place inside the Library. Sergio García will speak on behalf of the O’Brien descendants and the book will be launched by Helen Kelly, M.A.P.G.I.. Mrs. Kelly is a professional genealogist who has done much work on the migration of Irish families from the Longford-Westmeath area to South America. All are welcome to attend the unveiling and the book launch. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

    1. Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Locating Parish Records to review...
    2. Hi Jeff, well the area is under the Civil Parish of Kilcommon (Ballinacor), both Townlands are under this location, in the PLU of Shillelagh although the Catholic Records are showing as being under Ballinacor in the PLU of Rathdrum. You have the dates for the COI records I see? The Catholic Records for Rathdrum Parish District should be: Baptisms from Jan.1795-Jan.1799, Oct.1816-July 1835, Aug. 1835-Oct.1854, Sept.1854-Dec.1880. Marriages from Nov.1816-Nov.1880 No Burial records and possibly some dates missing from the above. All these can be found in the NLI Dublin on film no.6476 and possibly in the Wicklow Library in Boghall Road, Bray. If you can find a helpful priest in Wicklow you might find the records in the Parish books far more variable in the time factors. The COI Records if still intact, will of course be found at the RCB in Dublin. contact information as I've previously posted. slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman... irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Cyril Newsome - can you help? > > Mary Villaba (and I among others) are looking for family of one William Brownrigg (b. 1785 Mullins, Kilcommon, Wicklow, d. 1849 Quebec, Canada) m. in Co.
