    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] WHATELYWHEATLEY/WHITE
    2. Greetings from California! My gg grandparents are William WHATELY and Hannah WHITE. According to the LDS Family Search site they married in 1833 in the Diocese of Ossory, Province of Leinster. WHATELY was spelled WHEATLEY. This is the only evidence that they existed at all. I have found other WHATELYS and WHEATLEYS but have no idea if they connect without first finding the marriage record and learning who the parents are. I wrote to the RCB and learned that this Diocese includes about 70 parishes. Please, any advice? Thank you, Stephanie

    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] DEAR LISTERS -LIST ADMIN
    2. Dear Listers, When answering mails to the list, and especially to those who are new lister’s, bounces or simply hesitant first requesters. I simply ask that the question that they ask initially be answered simply and clearly and not bogged down with and over abundance of information, unless clearly defined. And in this case, it is a case of overkill from two enthusiastic devout researchers. On behalf of Jan Addison the question asked was simply* a list of locations of Church of Ireland Churches close to Wicklow Town…….. In the end baronies, townlands Poor law unions can be discussed and more information given to the lister once the initial question has been answered. In this case Church of Ireland churches closest to Wicklow Town are 1- Wicklow Town Parish Church 2- Dunganstown 3- Delgany 4- Ashford ( although I do not know if this was current in your time frame asked) 5- Newcastle 6- Glenealy 7- Rathdrum 8- Old Castlemacadam 9- Kilbride 10- Arklow 11- Bray Cheers CAra -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

    3. Hi Jan Dunbur Upper is located in Kilpoole Parish and Drumkay Parish borders this one and in "A Table of Church of Ireland Parochial Records and Copies," edited by Noel Reid these entries say refer to Wicklow. Wicklow Town falls in the parishes of Kilpoole and Rathnew. The Church of Ireland church in Wicklow Town is St Thomas, I believe, and the parish records are as follows: Baptisms 1655-1877 Marriages 1729-1869 Burials 1729-1874 These registers are available at the Representative Church Body Library, Braemore Park, Dublin. Have a look at "A New Genealogical Atlas of Ireland," by Brian Mitchell to see Wicklow Co with its parishes, baronies and Poor Law Unions (Registration Districts now) so that you can see where your parishes are located within the county. I'm guessing that the Public Library in Perth Central just may have Irish research source books available. I'll be in your fair city next month! 3. Hi Debbie, Thank you for that information as it is just what I wanted to hear. I thought perhaps there were several churches in the immediate area but it appears that isn't the case. Unfortunately a trip to Ireland is not a possibility at present so I would be relying on a favour from another researcher or paying someone to do it for me. If anyone local is going to Dublin I would be prepared to either contribute to the expenses or do research here for them in return. October is a great time to be in Perth so I hope you enjoy your stay. Thanks again, Jan Addison

    1. Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Parish locations
    2. For Jan Addison (and others). Debbie, it is not Dunbar but Dunbur Upper and in this case it is the Catholic records in the Civil Parish of Kilpoole not the COI records. Kilpool was a Curacy to the main "Parish of Wicklow" It is the Civil Registrations that were covered by Rathdrum PLU. The PLU prior to that was of course also Rathdrum, but the PLU's were technically for the founding of, the Management and the Administration of the Workhouses. The COI Church of the day, given the location, would have been that of Wicklow Town. I believe my old sparring partner Cara is here in Ireland and would suggest if you need any further information or look-ups you contact her wherever she might be. (A suit of Armour needed in my case). slan Cyril Newsome Loch Garman irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Hi Jan > > Dunbur Upper is located in Kilpoole Parish and Drumkay Parish borders this > one and in "A Table of Church of Ireland Parochial Records and Copies," > edited by Noel Reid these entries say refer to Wicklow. They were Fitzwilliam tenants, renting land from Richard Donoghue on the Coollattin Estate in Wicklow at the time they were evicted and given assisted passage to Canada in 1847. I'm assuming the usual family naming conventions apply since they pretty much followed them once in Canada, but it's unclear whether William or Edward was the oldest son according to the information we have.
