Hya Fiona, Ballymurtagh is an area close to the village of Avoca on the western side of the Avoca river, a major part of the copper mining industry was there. A Google search with the words Ballymurtagh copper Wicklow should turn up quite a lot of info on the area. regards Daz.
Hello Eileen Many thanks, I am very excited to make a connection with "Uncle Jerry" and "Uncle Andy" as they were known in the family, although they are actually great-uncles to me. Their brother James was my grandfather. The birth dates you supplied are slightly different to those I have from the birth records I obtained at the Public Records Office, Joyce House, Dublin: Jan.26th 1887 for Jerry. Feb.16th 1890 for Andy. Plus, I was not aware of Andrew's second given name, probable given later when baptised? St. Anthony was always a favourite saint in the family. I would be very grateful for any other details you have. Jeremiah (Jerry) Francis Kehoe (Keogh) b. 26/1/1887 Dublin and his brother Andrew (Andy) Kehoe b.28/2/18190 Dublin emigrated to America in the 1910s. There is a record of Andy arriving NY on the Mauritania 27/9/1912. I believe he died at Boston 1961. Both brothers may have served in US army WW1 and I believe Jerry died early 1920s from the after effects of being gassed in the trenches. They had one other brother, James b.19/5/1885 Dublin d. 2/5/1940 Wicklow Town, and a sister Mary Jo. d.1953-1956 Wicklow Town. Their parents were James Kehoe and Nora Sheehan m.17/8/1888 Wicklow Town. Any information on Andy and Jerry would be welcomed. Frank Kehoe Derbyshire

Charlene at charw@sympatico.ca writes: << Would there be Church of Ireland churches I could visit that would have been there early 1800s. >> Charlene, The townlands of Kilcarra East and West are located about 3 miles WNW of Arklow town, and together cover a bit more than a square mile. There are no churches in these townlands. There is a C of I church in Arklow town, but there are closer options. There is a C of I church in the townland of Ballintemple (the Discovery map 62 names the village there as Ballycoog), Ballintemple civil parish, just 2 miles WNW of the Kilcarras. There is a C of I church in Castlemacadam townland and civil parish, also 2 miles from Kilcarra East and West, but to the due North. This church is less than a mile south of Avoca town. And, as if by some ecclesiastical plan, there is another C of I church to the East of Kilcarra.......also 2 miles, in the townland of Ballinaheese and civil parish of Kilbride. These churches are current, and they (or earlier versions) are likewise shown on the Townland Index maps, which purportedly represent churches existing at the times of the early editions of the six-inch maps and the original Ordnance Survey - about 1830 to 1850 period, I'd say. So I hope these churches may be of help to you. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

Vicki, I do not know if this will help but my local FHC (LDS) has on film alisting of Irish BMD. It is similar to the British system as they where part of Britain in those dates . Births start from 1864; Marriages from 1845; deaths from 1864. not sure of the end date but I would not be surprised if is was about 1922. Hope this information is of use to you all. I am trying to find any info on Hugh Burns who sailed from Dublin and arrived in Philadelphia on June 18, 1827. I believed in lived in County Wicklow, he was born in 1792. Thank you
And for the record the spelling can be DWIRE, and O'Dwyer both spellings found in many places Dwyer name being linked to the County Wicklow rebel who indeed had family as far away in the end as Australia. And in Dublin as well so whilst we must not decide that it is just a one county name and can be located in other parts of Ireland....... now fellow listers ..... keep the calm CaRA -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

Hello Cara, I would really appreciate if you do have the time to check this marriage. I know there are at least three of us who would be interested in this information. Research seems to indicate that Catherine is indeed the daughter of Benjamin and hopefully details given at the time of marriage will confirm this. You have supplied me with a lot of information on the Chapmans as has Gary Chapman in Oregon BUT it all hinges on actually finding this marriage and verifying who her father was before we can slot her into the family. I know that John Parker was a butcher in Wicklow as early as 1846 but have no idea of his parentage. Anything you turn up regarding the Parker/Chapman family would be a great help. Thanks again, Jan Addison, Perth, W.A.
