    1. Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Cemetery preservation?
    2. Really interested in outcome. Was able to visit Old Kilbride on my recent and only trip to Ireland, it must have been beautiful in its day but was so disappointed in the condition of the overgrowth however it was obvious someone was doing their best to keep it accessible. Found a cousin but couldn't find my uncle. Will have to go back, nothing to it. Fell in love with the whole country. Wished I had a chain saw for the gorse and bramble as there were many stones overgrown. Many holes and a rat spotted as well. It was so peaceful looking out to the Irish Sea from a knoll. My next favorite was Castle Macadam just across from the Vale. The main gate was closed with barbed wire and we turned back. The locals said just climb over the wall, everyone does, so we returned and found the side gate was open so in we went with great care. The stinging nettle was a challenge but sounds like we faired better than Cara when she first went to Old Kilbride. Still searching for Beatty or Beattie of Wicklow, one brother John from Shelton and my GGGGGrandfather Thomas who we believe lived in Kilcarra for a bit and possibly Arklow where he married Jane Smith and Wiclow Town before coming to Canada. It was a wonderful wonderful wonderful trip just too short and no nearly enough time to research. Charlene

    3. My Wilson and Willoughby information is as follows (haven't done much...started research on another branch, and got stuck into that) my grandfather - Herbert Charles Wilson b. 1910 Moyne co. Wicklow (siblings Edith, Bill, Albert, Ella) his parents - George Nicholas Wilson b. 1880, Jane Adelaide Strahan (b. 1873 Macreddin to Ellen Plant and William Strahan) **George's siblings were Katie(m.Bourne), Janie (m.Eddy Lawrence, dtr Amy Lawrence. Janie died in childbirth), Thomas (m.Ruth Saul 1896, d.1919), William (m. Catherine Eager 1904 d. 1973? in Co. Wicklow) George's parents - William Wilson, Sarah Ellen Willoughby **do not know the names of George's siblings Sarah's parents - Nicholas and Jane Willoughby (there is a plaque in the Moyne(?) church...Cof I...with their names on it) don't have any further info on the Wilson side. Don't know if this helps anyone...if anyone has info they can share, I'd be thrilled! 2. I agree with you (and possibly others) that CastleMac. is the epitome of Irish graveyards. I do hope that you got the chance to visit the Chapel of Rest at Conary, a well maintained graveyard that includes the graves of Beatties, only a short distance from Avoca.

    3. Hi there, I have one Hobson connection in my tree, and I'd like to find out a bit more about them as they are linked to a number of branches. The lady in question is the niece of my gggg grandfather, daughter of Anne Eager and Henry Lawrence of Slieveroe, Moyne. She was probably born around 1850. Now it gets confusing, because the family history doesn't give first names. But it mentions a Grandmother Hobson, (who is possibly the niece mentioned above). Grandmother Hobson's daughter - Mother Lawrence, who in turn is the mother of Aunt Nan. Nan's maiden name was Driver. So I think that there is a commection with your family, and I have a number of Lawrences who have intermarried with different branches of my family, so I'm very interested in untangling all the threads. Help would be most appreciated! 1. [IRL-WICKLOW] Fitzgerald
    2. Ray
    3. Hi, I am new to this list and thought I would start with an absolute long shot, I am looking for ancestors of Elizabeth Fitzgerald 1906 - 1971, from around Arklow, she came over to North Wales and Married a Thomas, in St David's Church, Mold in 1937 They then lost one of their sons Michael Esmor Thomas by drowning in 1956 in or near Arklow. Am I right in thinking that the census are out foe 1911 over there? or any other pointers please. Regards Ray

    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] Hobson/Driver families
    2. Hello listers, just back from Ireland, with a few answers and many more questions. I am now looking for information about any people you may have in your family trees who lived at Muckduff Lower or Mungoduff as it was called in the "early" days. This is in the parish of Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow. There may be a notation on a tombstone or you may have birth, marriage or death information listing Mungoduff as home. I would be most interested. And I will supply all the info I have about the families that lived on this property of 367 acres. And Muckduff Upper which was only inhabited by sheep [483 acres]. The families were mostly C of I, with the farm servants being RC. Many of the following individuals are buried at St Peter's Church grounds in Kiltegan. Here is the information I have from documents obtained at the Valuation Office in Dublin, and I'm hoping to add to it. The property was owned by William W. F. Hume until around 1867, when the name changes to William W. F. Dick. Does anyone know the story behind that? Later it is owned by William Hume Hume. In 1827, the Tithe Applotment for Mungoduff lists the following lessees: [from National Archives, Dublin] Thomas Wilson George Wilson John Moody Robert White Maurice Hawkins George Hawkins And farm servant Thomas Kelly In 1854 Primary Valuation the following individuals [and presumably families] are present: John Wilson Thomas Hobson William Driver George Hawkins Anne Alcock William Moody and farm servants Denis Byrne and Thomas Byrne In 1860 the following families are listed: John Wilson Thomas Hobson William Driver George Driver George Alcock William Moody and farm servants Denis Byrne and Thomas Byrne In 1867, the Byrnes are gone and in their places are Edward Cusack and Patrick Rooney. In 1877: John Wilson Thomas Hopson [it should be Hobson] William Driver Snr William Driver Jr George Driver Jane Alcock replaces her husband George in 1883 George Moody replaces William in 1878 and then George's wife Catherine replaces him in 1883 Farm servants are Edward Cusack and Patrick Rooney In 1893 Edward Cusack is gone and William W. F. Dick is replaced by William Hume Hume as Lessor. [no it's not a mistake, his middle name appears to be Hume as well as his last name.] In 1894 Jane Alcock is replaced by her son William Alcock In 1912 James Toole replaces John Wilson, and then Toole is replaced by Nicholas Willoughby in 1920. Thomas Hobson is replaced by John Hobson. [date unreadable] Catherine Moody is replaced by William Moody in 1919, then Martha Moody replaces him in 1927. Patrick Rooney is replaced by John Rooney in what appears to be 1914. In 1951 Nicholas Willoughby is replaced by Thomas Alcock who is now an owner rather than lessor. John Hobson is replaced by owner, Miss M. J. Alcock, in 1962. William Driver is replaced by Peter Jackson in 1956, then Charlotte Jackson in 1978. John Rooney is gone as of 1940. George Driver is replaced by James Hobson in 1953. William Alcock is replaced by son, Thomas Alcock in 1939 Martha Moody is replaced by son, Ben Moody in 1942 Not sure if this is of interest to anyone other than me. Although I am not related to the Hobsons, Drivers or Wilsons, I would love to gather information about them since my families, Alcock and Hawkins, lived in close proximity to them over many years. I will post census info separately in the hope that it may be of use to someone. Terri Alcock Sooke BC Canada _teralcock@aol.com_ (mailto:teralcock@aol.com)
