I'm currently following a lead on WHITEs in Thornbury, Ontario - looks like some of Hannah's family emigrated along with the WHATELYs in the 1800s.? I have no idea where she's from but it must be within the boundary of the Diocese of Ossory as that's where she married Wm WHATELY.? 3. This although a long story has been related to me this morning and I hope with all its twists and turns I get it right in the telling, but seeing as it was to my ears a delight to hear I thought I would try and re-write it for the list. Sheila started all this by asking for a graveyard where her Byrnes may be buried Now I needed some photos from Rathangan or is that Rathdangan anyway the one in Wicklow, one is in Wicklow one is Wexford. So in my usual way I asked himself to take a day out and go visit this area, which as it is his family I am doing he was more than willing to do, he picked up his partner in crime, or is that in headstone hunting at 10am in Arklow and headed away to Aughrim, ( His partner in crime is the caretaker of Old Kilbride) and he declared he had never been this side of Aughrim to begin with, so that started for a great day of touring for this two. They made it to Rathadangan ( if I spell it wrong forgive me ) anyway, my other half reckons that there is not a man in the world that Pat does not know a rellie of, so they are in the grveyard and a little dog arrives, and of course we are all dog people, so begins the chat, the man with the Dog is a Cullen, and he Pat knows his brother etc, so they ask about Hugh and Bridget Byrne, and the man says, oh shure I know someone who will know, so they are told to follow him, and they find no one home, so they go to the next house, and no one home, oh shure they all be at mass he says, we will go to Sally, so of course that is where the Tooles house is, so Jimmys not home, and they end up at the home of another Cullen, who says okay we go to this place, and they go to the Christian Brothers house, and wait, oh shure he says Pad will be along soon, Pad Appears, he is only in Mass, and shure he knows where to send them, so he gives them more instructions, as only the country Irish can, as the crow flies, my other half says well this crows got no wings hes walking, so, they are told to go to the four cross roads, and turn right, turn right now not left, right, then they have to go on down there further dont turn at the next cross road go on and dont turn at the next, and you will come to the next four cross roads, you then turn left and you will find a house, and if there is any confusion, just stop an ask someone and they will take the confusion out it for you. They have been sent to the home of Mr. Harmon and his wife, well they find the home and begins a chat, about what they are doing, and once again Pat knows this mans brothers, (Never been here before ) and that makes the chate friendlier, they enter the house and Mr Harmon sends for his mother who I learn is Margaret, ( where this was all leading by now I was lost) and so himself says he is looking for a burial place for Hugh Byrne and Brigid his wife, now this lady is 83 years of age bright as a button, and she says to her son.put the kettle on, we will have tea, and the cups arrived and barn brack, and it was a fine tae. Margaret was delighted, and so began the story, she said* We have lots and lots of Americans call to our door and you are the first that has ever come here not American, asking about MY family* and much to our delight she knew of the Toole line as well and is related. And she then tells her son about his great great grandad Hugh O'Byrne and his wife Brigid............... Although I guess this is not much import only to those researching these lines but Sheila now has a living relative to call and chat to, I will be sending details off line on that for privacy reasons of course. And we will await the outcome of next weeks trip back by these intrepid pair to the area, as we await to see what Sheila finds in her call to Ireland Just one of those days when things go well Cheers Cara
