Yes Daz. No signposts, or visible hints. Unless you go into the man's driveway, to his back garden, you wouldn't see a sign of a cemetery. Amazing. His house is on the Main St., at the end of the row of shops, and before the Church. I took pictures. Just have to find them!! Well Peggy, That then becomes your problem, you will miss a great event with all these people, in June. 2010, do you know what Peggy if we had to all count the monies with the world the way it is, none of us would ever leave home again. And the weather in April cant be compared to the weather in June - and as you dont come to Ireland in June you cant compare the weather, after all it may rain more yet, in April than June or the other way round, but as I have a son up there, and hes been put on notice we want some fine weather in June, I have faith the weather will better in June. Yes I do know the graveyard, and its been photographed and transcribed, once by Daz and once by Himelf, its a shame that you never took the long walk after that to Kilmagig, you would have been very fit by then.I also know the history of the mans house, did you get a photo of that as well? Photos are available for sending to listers, of Graveyards in and Around Avoca some having already been posted to the IGP page others wont be posted there until I finish writing the sequel to my first book on the headstones and graveyards of the area. You know what Daz that would be it and we have it already photographed and trasncribed and on the internet, its a shame, when you dont get told the correct place, and the place you passed to get to it Peg has the most interesting history attached to it, did you stop to take that photo as well? As ALice is found born baptised30/4/1869 at Coolattin ~Clonegal parish have you trawled the paper work that is listed on the IGP Co Carlow pages, they have Clonegal data there and as this area crosses three boundaries, Wicklow, CArlow and Wexford. It may be that you could ( I said Could) find more birth dates on these pages. A simple google with IGP CO Carlow in the subject line should get it up for you to look at. If not then we will have to look the URL out for you Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vicki Harding" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 04, 2009 3:07 PM Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Roll call Willoughby > Hi Yvonne > > I always get excited whenever I see the Willoughby name from Wicklow. > > My Great Grandfather William Willoughby was born Wicklow about 1865, I > have > not been able to find a birth for him as yet. Sorry about my last posting on Dowd/O'Dowd. I forgot to clip. Michael New Zealand.
ROLL CALL - Hello list, I posted here in some back and had no bites so hopefully you can help me locate Michael O'Dowd or Dowd. Michael was born before 1812 in, we think, County Wicklow and died before 1867. His son Thomas William O'Dowd or Dowd was born 1 June 1838 in, we think, County Wicklow. He went to England and married Sarah Evans on 5 August 186. He then married Elizabeth Humberstone on 21 December 1867. They had seven children. We feel sure he changed to Dowd in England but don't really know. Bit of a mystery as to where his father and mother came from and hope someone might help us out. Congratulations. It is so wonderful to hear of success stories such as yours. Hoping that there will be many more success stories posted to the list this year! Jane AUSTRALIA -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sheila Chaudoin Sent: Friday, 3 July 2009 7:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Roll Call: Byrne To all the listers, If you've been following my request to find the burial place of Hugh and Bridget Byrne of Ballymaconey and read the email from Cara about the adventures she sent her husband on to help me out, I have news! I was able to connect with Margaret Harmon who Cara's husband found for me. She is indeed the granddaughter of Hugh and Bridget making her my 1st cousin, twice removed. Margaret was a delight to talk with. Her grandchildren came while we were on the phone and since there was an echo on the line, I asked for her address and decided to write her to ask her specific questions. Any way, I thought I'd let you all know my good luck and my undying gratitude to Cara and her husband for going above and beyond the call of duty for a stranger!! Hi Cara, As you know I am headed to County Wicklow in Oct and can't afford another trip in 2010 but have a suggestion or two. Bray which isn't that far away from Avoca and has library with a fairly good genealogy section including old newspapers of the area. From a strictly tourist interest , Powerscourt Estate and waterfalls should rank high on the list places to see. Twenty seven boxes of estate files are in Dublin for anyone reseaching this vast estate and the many lease holders of long ago. Best of luck. I hope you get a great response. ----- Original Message ----- From: Cara_Links To: [email protected] Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] START SAVING THAT MEET GOES AHEAD IN 2010 Date: Sat, 4 Jul 2009 13:23:41 +1000 We talked about this once before, and of course things slowed this old girl down, but have now decided and roped in another as you will see at the bottom of list to help out. A meeting of Wicklow Root Listers has been suggested to take place in Avoca or thereabouts in June 2010 The success of such event depends on the interest shown . So could you please indicate if you would like to join in . When we have an idea of numbers we can start planning a programme.( a very simple one) For example a venue will be arranged and possibly a bus tour - headstones would have to be looked at. How about some suggestion and input from listers on this part of the programme? it could be a two day event...... thats open to speculation at this moment . Further details to follow when we have an idea of interest. Under no circumstances will I be making travel arrangements, or accomodation arrangements for anyone. although A list of Hotels, B & B's will be provided and Car Hire details for those who wish to avail. of those can do so I Would hope you would respond as soon as possible but not later than 15th August 2009." Remember nothing will be set in cement, no one is obligated to say yes, the onus is on each person tdo whatever they desire in regards to this meet. RSVP:- to GOLDING KIDD [email protected] with Cara's blessing and yes she is coming up for it.( God Willing) Cheers for now Cara *************************************** 1- Only leave in the body of the mail what is relevant to your answer 2- Change the SUBJECT LINE to suit the body of your own Mail to List. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message Cheers Bernie Bradner Georgetown, Ontario 905-702-0265 Visit my web page http://www.aztec-net.com/~bradner/ Researching, Bradner, Bryant, Corrigan, Kezar, Whitewood family names -- Be Yourself @ mail.com! I'll be there, Cara....but in April, as usual. Already have the Brookview for the month. The weather isn't that much different, and airfare/lodgings are half the price. Found a tiny cemetery in some man's back garden - about 10-15 headstones. He let me climb up to it, and I mean climb. I had to use the stones to pull myself up the slope! All I could do was wonder how they managed to get the coffins up there. Looking down onto the main street, I was above the rooftops of the houses and shops. Do you know the one? Hi Yvonne I always get excited whenever I see the Willoughby name from Wicklow. My Great Grandfather William Willoughby was born Wicklow about 1865, I have not been able to find a birth for him as yet. His parents were John Willoughby and Alice Young. There were the following siblings: Sarah John b 1859 Thomas Edward b 1861 William b 1865 Anthony b 1867 Alice b 1869 William arrived in New Zealand before October 1894, as on 4 October he married Lillian Sloane Glasgow. I have found his brother's Thomas Edward and John living in Cheshire, England married with families in 1881. If there is any possible connection with your family I would love to hear from you. We talked about this once before, and of course things slowed this old girl down, but have now decided and roped in another as you will see at the bottom of list to help out. RSVP:- to GOLDING KIDD [email protected] with Cara's blessing and yes she is coming up for it.( God Willing) Cheers for now Cara

Hi List Have been looking for JAMES CARROLL bc 1811 Wicklow married MARIA BYRNE bc 1819 Kildare in Kildare in 1839. They seemed to have gone to Dublin by 1846 because they had Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth there. They also had William, George, John and an unkonwn child who all died as well as Maria born in 1856. They came to Australia on the Star of the South on 5 August 1857 and had my great grandmother Margaret Elizabeth in 1858. Have no parish name nor does there seem to be a record of the marriage in Kildare. Sometimes they posted the banns in both parishes and am hoping somebody came across them in Wicklow. Any information would be helpful. John Hosie Melbourne, Australia

Vicki I was reading yours to Yvonne, and noted that you were still looking for the birth of your WILLIAM WILLOUGHBY about 1865. I had a look at Birth registrations, and there are four possibles. They are all registered as "MALE" WILLOUGHBY" in the Shillelagh area, the same area in which WILLIAM'S siblings appear to have been registered. Maybe you have already gone down this route, but thought I would mention it.
