    3. Maureen No need to worry - it will be as casual as you want it - the only formality will be if we MEET for a discussion and maybe a meal - (when we break bread together ! and you do not have to dress up ) and maybe a tour of areas chosen- that may take just a little 'formality' but it will be a casual/informal formality ! If that is not what is preferred then just turn up somewhere. 3. Dear Golding It appears to me that you are going to make this meet a very formal affair, and i think it is only fair to ask the Listers, are they meeting to meet Cara, and other Listers and relax and, share their Genealogy or get lessons in how to research. And if it is to be a learning meet then i think that most of these listers already qualify and dont need more lessons,on something they already know. I am of the thoughts way back when this was discussed before even you joined the list, they (the listers) were meeting to have an ice cream - if you don't believe me look in the archives, and now it appears its going to be a very formalised affair. I think it only fair to warn you ,that you don't know my mate Cara too well, and if it gets too formal she won't be there, she will simply not appear.and i do believe i will cancel too. Our Girl likes things to be as a la natural as possible all be it she would be wearing her jeans and t shirt for sure, well at least i hope so. Food for thought is why you are meeting ? and this should be taken into account sooner than later. Just a thought from the aulde one here and without Cara,s blessing i am saying my piece clo

    3. Cloris Lovely name yours, wondering how it originated ? Thank you for your response The form which the 'MEET ' takes place is not in my hands. I am simply the volunteer coordinator APPROVED by the Administrator ! Expect that the listers should have some input into the format it takes - suppose that would mean fixing a venue to meet and giving likeminded people opportunity to share their 'joys & sorrows' ! It is not a herding exercise - but if the opportunity is offered then listers can avail. As with all things like this I would appreciate more positive response as negatives are not encouraging . 3. RE VANSTON - Doreen Vanston artist Hi, I used to know Doreen Vanston who was mentioned in the Irish Times: Exhibition of Living Art Revisited Irish Times. 1 October 1943. p.3. She was living in a flat in Upper Mount St near the Church at the end of the Street - she had been married and lived in Costa Rica, but had returned in a condition of rebellion and dislike of the life there....She was an inspired artist, a gentle soul ,she many times welcomed me as a single mother with both my children to her house; it seemed to me she was leading a very quiet life withdrawn from the artistsb but painting all the time. She was born in 1903 and died in 1988.She was a member of the White Stag Group To view the essay by Dr S B Kennedy please download the following link: The White Stag Group by Dr S B Kennedy (Word doc 206KB) of which I take the excerpt: It was followed by another mixed show, of paintings by Stephen Gilbert, Hall, Rakoczi, Scott and Doreen Vanston. While the Irish Times (19 April 1943) had reservations about many of the pictures in the latter show-'they are mostly products of that dream vision in which it is very difficult to follow the artists,' it commented-the 'paper did admire the presentation of the exhibition, saying that from the White Stag people 'many of our galleries and their exhibitors could learn a lot about how to mount an exhibition.' She also took part in the Exhibition of Subjective Art, which took place at 6 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin, from 4th till 22nd January 1944. Herbert Read, whom Rakoczi had known in London, wrote the introduction to the catalogue. Read praised the 'fresh vigour' of the works on show, which he saw as being part of 'the main stream of European culture.' I just found this in the Irish Genealogical Soc. Ms. Rosemary Walton, 11 Old Quay Terrace, Strand Road, Dublin 13, Ireland. E-mail:- [email protected] is researching the life and work of Irish artist Dairine (Doreen) Vanston and would be interested in hearing from anyone who knew her. Born in Dublin in 1903 and lived for some years in France and Costa Rica, Vanston returned to Dublin in 1941 where she lived and worked until her death. And a James Craine had a daughter named Elizabeth who married a unknown Richardson would you happen to know his first name and date of birth? they would have married I think before 1853 as I then have noted that she married in Rathdrum in that year to a Patrick, it is the Richardson name I would be grateful to receive if you or another lister are able to supply that it would be great. 2. Hi Golding, A spent a day picnicking on a hilltop in Glenmalure, trespassing in a sheep pasture. It must have been quite close to the Army's firing range, because there were two dead sheep close by. The thing I remember about it was the way the sun traveled across the hills around me, changing the scenery by the hour. I'm a "cold tomato", I'm told, but I cried my heart out up there. When I was asked why I was crying, all I could say was, "my father should be here with me to see this". But my all time favorite view is at the Golf course (can't remember the name right now) on the ocean, just outside of Wicklow town. Oh..I walk Avondale most Sunday mornings when I'm over there and love to sit on the benches on "The great ride". lol Peggy In a message dated 7/7/2009 6:59:22 P.M. Ann was John Niles wfe when they came to england. You have indeed got me thinking, maybe my Niles moved from avoca after Roberts baptism as I havent found a baptism for Ann circa 1856, elzabeth circa 1859 and John and Ellen (twins?) circa 1862- Elzabeth Ellen and John say Wicklow as county of baptism. Ann died before a census could be taken. When I discover where John married Ann- and maybe even a Mary as you have hinted before due to various spellings maybe I will find the baptisms. Hopefully finding out where a lot of the miners who came to cumberland England were shortly before leaving Ireland may help? As for evidence of Bridgets burial, Im holding very lttle hope as unless a headstone is found THEN I CANT THINK OF ANY EVIDENCE AT ALL. You know I like to dream and what a nicer resting place could you wish for. Of course all the other places you mention- and a lot you dont are all in my head as well, wouldnt it be something if a headstone for Bridget Niles wife of John, mother of Susanna Patrick and Robert, daughter of Patrick Sullvan and connected to Susannah Sullivan crops up. In my dreams:) You know- ITS JUST DAWNED ON ME AFTER READING YOUR MAIL they may well have left Wicklow for a whle cos I dont have any indcation of where Ann was born and the gap between Robert 1851and Ann circa 1856 is when I think Bridget died- thanks Cara for getting me going again. 2. Thank you Golding! I might just get over there. I never know when the mood will strike. I've got 6 kids living all over the US, and one in heaven with Cara's son. They usually visit in the summer, when grandchildren are out of school...another reason I stay close to home in June/July/Aug. But, either way, you live in Ireland....You can always come to Arklow in April for a visit. I'll make you a good pot of tea and some lunch. 2. Alyce Herrera
    3. Since I live in the US and have just started researching my Irish family a few years back, I would love to see both venues. I would love to have a lecture on the better known "how to's" of researching in Ireland from across the pond. I would also just love to meet everyone, have an ice cream, a cold pint, and the only way to attend would be in jeans and sweatshirts. I would love to have a tour of some of these wonderful cemeteries you are discussing, and be able to do a little research while I'm there. Those Farrell's are making me white headed trying to pin them down. My only concern is telling my husband I'm going alone.... Alyce Herrera

    3. My number one daughter and beau of 15 years just "engaged"....and she has always talked about having a wedding in Ireland....so, if I can talk her into not waiting another 15 years to actually get married, perhaps we can kill two birds, etc...... Now, I'm with Cloris (and probably Cara)....love ice cream....but can we have pictures?....and will some Brownriggs come?........ m Mary Villalba AZTEC Communications, LLC (303) 290-8415 Distinguished Past Governor, Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis International "A global organization of volunteers, dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time."

    3. Linda I gather that the Charles who married Eliza Ellis was a bachelor? or had he been married before also and do you think he may have married his sister in law? I have a Charles Ellis married to a Mary Ennis 1830 Wicklow Church of Ireland ... David Vantson son of Francis married at Ardoyne 1853 a Mary Vanston John Allen married a Sarah Vanston dont know where and they had a female child 1874 in Dunlavin If these appear to be yours I can fill in the dates for you. But I have no Boggs for Co Wicklow but I see the name is in Dublin and other counties when was Ann Boggs born ? And a James Craine had a daughter named Elizabeth who married a unknown Richardson would you happen to know his first name and date of birth? they would have married I think before 1853 as I then have noted that she married in Rathdrum in that year to a Patrick, it is the Richardson name I would be grateful to receive if you or another lister are able to supply that it would be great. The Ellis family that came to Australia are you linked to any of those fine young men at all?
