Re Henry Pollard - I don't know if this will help. I am researching Alcock, Hawkins, Moody and Pollard. Alcocks from Kiltegan, Wicklow and Moodys also. Which is just a hop, skip and jump away from Hacketstown. Also, on the property of Muckduff or Mungoduff outside of Kiltegan, there are Willoughby, Alcock, Wilson, Moody, Hawkins and Hobson. More info if there is any interest. Pollards married into the Alcock Family so I have quite a bit of info on them. Also Mary Ann Ellis b 1838 married Arthur Cantelon. One of their children Margaret Mary Cantelon married James Edward Pollard. His parents were William Pollard and Mary Moody. William Pollard born in 1831 in Hacketstown, died in Ontario. Mary Moody born 1838 Hacketstown. Her parents were Thomas Moody and Ann Driver, he from Co Carlow and she Co Wicklow. They both died in Morris Manitoba. Terri Alcock Generation No. 1 1. Thanks for your reply Golding. Yes there was one family in Belfast whom I am sure must be related BUT cannot get that actual proof. The Culloden Hotel was built for the wife of William Auchinleck ROBINSON - Elizabeth Jane CULLODEN. When she died she gave the home to the C/E to be the home of the Bishop which he lived in and added a two person chapel which is still there albeit a store room to the office. None of the men of this family had any [known] children as they never married. I am also now saving CULLTEONs and variants as well as they seem to be connected I think. There were Hall's on the Wicklow / Wexford near Arklow Culleton is a fairly common Wexford name : Culloden would appear to have roots in the North East corner of Ireland. Varerie It is helpful if you could give indication of dates (e.g births, marriages deaths . Hall name can be found on the Wicklow/Wexford border - near Arklow . Culleton is a prominent Wexford name : Culloden I think has Northern Ireland root .........There is the Culloden Hotel neat Belfast . However I recollect many other listers who were researching Culloden and no doubt you will get lots of replies to your enqiiry. Valerie You know that dates ( either birth , marriage & death are important !) There were Hall's on the Wicklow / Wexford near Arklow Culleton is a fairly common Wexford name : Culloden would appear to have roots in the North East corner of Ireland. In thinking of the Culloden Hotel near Belfast . There are no Collafancy records at the RCB. Cheers for now from Valerie in sunny Sydney -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Brendan Dixon Sent: Friday, 17 July 2009 7:45 PM To: R&PSmyth; [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Kiltennel Parish / Coolafancy research Hi I cannot find a Kiltennel in Wicklow but there is one just north of Courtown about 1km and it seems to have Kiltennel church (in ruins, this map from 1840s) and graveyard right in the middle of the townland. I presume this is where or about where the present church stands. It is bordered to the east by the sea and to the west by the small road from Courtown northwards. I have an old list of RCB records and I don't think Kiltennel is listed there. They could be there now or still held locally. You can fine the contact in http://www.ireland.anglican.org/ look under Dioceses & Parishes, Cashel & Ossory, Parishes and Clergy and Ardamine. Coolafancy does not seem to exist in Wexford but there is a Coolafancy in Wicklow. It you follow a line southwards from Tinahely for a few Kms you will find Coolboy, if you the go due east for a Km or so then Coolafancy seems to be the townland north of the roads based around the hill. It is also west north west of Kiltennel about 35 Kms (ish) Regards Brendan On 16 Jul 2009 at 13:44, R&PSmyth wrote: > I am arriving in County Wicklow at the end of September for a few days. The RCB hold records for Kiltennel parish in County Carlow. Let me know if you are interested in the dates please ? Kiltennell isnt that in Co Wexford on the old Courtown Road? Cara But anyway as usual someone else will write to you off list and we will all lose the valuable input needed to know where things are. ----- Original Message ----- From: "R&PSmyth" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 17, 2009 3:44 AM Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Kiltennel Parish / Coolafancy research >I am arriving in County Wicklow at the end of September for a few days. The journal is in hard copy only as far as I know. Its called Journal of the Wexford Historical Society. ISSN 0790-1828 I think it was called the Journal of the Old Wexford Society. Some libraries may keep copies. What makes you assume LEGGETT were Presbyterians I would be most intersested in that thought Seeing as Ihave ony crossed their paths as Church Of Ireland Cara, you are likely correct about their faith being Church of Ireland in Wicklow /Wexford. The next generation in Canada were at times Church of England and Methodist.> and If I said the RCB would hold the records do you know where that is and > what it is - Representative Church Body hold he most records of Church of > Ireland data, and as your family were in the area of Coolafancy, you would > need to be looking at Church of Ireland, as it was a stronghold of Church > Of > Ireland ... > > Kiltennell isnt that in Co Wexford on the old Courtown Road? Is Kiltennel parish in both Wicklow and Wexford? I have a marriage of a Benjamine Leggett of Coolafancy in Parish of Kiltennel to Martha Agar of Anagh in the parish of Gorey 1812, Jan 7th This is the only record I have confirmed to be my family. There are lots of other Leggetts in the area but no confirmed connection yet. therefore I hope to be able to locate any existing records for Coolafancy in Parish of Kiltennel, Gorey, Crosspatrick and Coolboy are also places mentioned in oral history of the family. I hope to find the births of John and Elizabeth Leggett's children : Benjamin c 1790, John c. 1794, Robert c. 1795, Jane c. 1797. Thanks Joyce and Valerie for the location of the Kiltennell records. Thanks everyone for the help. I will start following up on the leads. Pat (Ontario)
