Hi too have looked at the search box many a time and never seen it! Lo and behold within minutes Ive found Nail, Henry Coroughlane, Co. Wicklow Farmer this was listed in Military: DUBLIN Rebels who surrendered in the city of Dublin from 29th June to 9th September 1798. now who knows anything about him? Carol
Valerie, once you bring up the photos on the page look at the top left corner and you will see the word "TEXT." Click on that and it will bring up the text for all of the headstones. Go to the top of the page and click on "VIEW" and let the box drop down. Click on "FIND" and then, depending upon which web browser you have, you enter the surname you are looking for. I use Mozilla Firefox, so the little screen to fill in the surname is at the bottom of the screen. Some web browsers have a box appear in the middle of the screen in which to enter the name. Good Luck. Valerie Use the "Search" on the Home Page - http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Enter your "query" in the left and leave the word "site" in the right. You don't have to change that to a County. That way you can search all the records with your query. I have on my shelf ( compliments of a mate) one of the books written about Holt in 1828 includes his diaries. But he only comes across as a man who marched from place to place for food. I could look more into it if time allows me Cheers Cara Book c1828

Hi Cara, thanks for that. You mentioned researching the children of Joshua and Letitia, could you supply the details? If they were on the list I apologise, but I wasn't sure. Carole
Thank you Peggy, I have perused "Rebellion in Wicklow" and made several notes. Also thank you to Frank for sending the links for Croker's book. I searched for Joshua in this but only found the briefest mention of his brother Joshua. >From another researcher I have learned that General Joseph Holt stayed in his Brother Joshua's home in Sandymount near Dublin when the General was ill. I do know that Joshua and Letitice had at least one son John c 28/7/1799 in Castlemacadam. Now I'm trying to find out if there were more children. Carole
Now fair warning on this file and names of mine it is a work in process but as I have not been back to Ireland to work on it this is how it has panned out, but before the listers take this search off the list, I am asking you all to keep it on the front of the list, as many people have been asking about this name search for sometime, and if its allowed to run its course on the front of the list, then it makes the archives and its accessible to all those in the future If mistakes are found in my search, would you or anyone reading this in the future be kind enough to let me know, whilst I lay no claim to most folk in the researching of Co Wicklow people, I do have an interest in General Holt of this line. I have left the body of the mail in this mail, simply because it is I feel a necessary part of this search. Thankyou for reading this . Too many Josephs in this line far too many Joseph born c 1728 married Unknown died 3/3/1785 Co WIcklow he had a son John, c1752-died who married 25/3/1819 in the Derralossary Parish who married into the great family that we are all connected to no matter where in the world we do family research he married Ann UNKNOWN and had two known children 1- John Holt 2- Elizabeth Holt John Holt ( 1) married Miss UNKNOWN as well and they begat 1- Joseph Holt July 1759 at Ballydonnell Co Wicklow Ireland died 16/5/1826 Dun Laoghaire Co Dublin Ireland married Esther Long of an Unknown Long lineage she died 24/6/1827 at Dun Laoghaire they married Circa 1782 at Ballydonnell ( more later this being a well documented family on the net I feel but have never looked) 2- John Holt married Sarah Heath and she died 21/4/1852 Castlemacdam and they had a Joshua born circa 1820 died 7/7/1840 Somewhere in Wicklow 3- Mary Holt 4-Joshua Holt married Letitia Turner 6/9/1789 Castlemacadam Co Wicklow Ireland when I was transcribing the children she was often referred to as Sara so is there two Joshua's in the parish or was she Sarah Letitia ? 5-William Holt 6- Thomas Holt married also in the Unknown family by marrying a Catherine and he also fathered two sons I know of 1- Joseph died 24.3.1829 in the parish of Avoca and is buried in the Old Avoca Graveyard within the town as did 2- Thomas he died 24/4/1827 and buried same place as above Interred in Avoca Old Graveyard ( Behind a private home now was originally the Post Office) Erected by Thomas Holt in memory of his son Thomas Holt Jnr. who departed this life April 24th 1827 aged 1 years. Also his son Joseph Holt departed March 24th 1829 aged 1 year. I also have noted that although this family is of the parish of Castlemacadam they do not appear to have had many family members marry in Avoca ...........must have been further out churches. But happy to look further at my files. Cheers for now and welcome aboard the Wicklow List Cara > Thanks for that link to IGP archives Christina. Thanks for that link to IGP archives Christina. I'm new to this newsgroup and looking for anything to do with the Holt surname. In particular though, I'm looking for a baptism or marriage of my Joseph Holt born about 1796 in Ireland. He came to Liverpool England about 1825 to 1826 with his wife Mary (b about 1801) and his daughter Letitia. Letitia Holt married a Patrick Byrne (mariner) in Liverpool in 1845 but she was a widow with no issue by 1861. Joseph and Mary Holt went on to have three more children in Liverpool; daughter Mary Holt (b 1826), son Joshua Holt (b 1830 but died before 1841) and son Thomas Joshua Holt (b 1834). As Joseph named his first daughter Letitia and his first son Joshua, I think his parents might have been Joshua Holt and Letitice Turner who married in Castlemacadam on 6/9/1789. Does anyone have access to the Castlemacadam records who could perhaps do a look up for Joseph's baptism or his marriage? Thank you Carole

I have just uploaded a list of Royal Irish Constabulary men with a native county of Wicklow Sep 1852-Dec 1852. RIC men were both Catholic and Protestant. They almost never served in their home county so finding them requires figuring out where they were from and or stationed. I hope to add to it as I can. If anyone wants the height of anyone named, let me know. I left it off for brevity.
