    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] IGP Archives Searching
    2. Christina Finn Hunt
    3. I have added a site search to Wicklow. It is in the Table of Contents on the main Wicklow page. There is no drop down box to choose the county here. But, the good news is that each page that concerns Wicklow or any county, has that county name in the page header. In fact you might find something elsewhere in the site but not using the drop down on box that we have on the IGP Archives main page. You can do a search like | Callaghan Wicklow | or | "Matthew Dunne " Wicklow | to look for an exact phrase. You can also click on Advanced Search to play with other options. We now have thousands of names on the site so it helps to know how to narrow down. Also be aware that the "Kells head" graphic will take you back to the main Archives page. I hope this makes your searching easier. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/wicklow/index.htm Christina

    3. Sharon I was at the National Library, Kildare St. Dublin last week and was informed by the librarian that they held Fitzwilliam manuscripts relating to the Wicklow estates and tenants. I was told to consult the Hayes Indexes (situated next to the counter) which run to something like 20 large volumes, with some indexed according to date, others are by person and others by place. Once a ref. number is found (if not on film) the original manuscript can be accessed in the Manuscript Room, situated at the end of Kildare Street. A reader's ticket can be obtained on the day but a passport style photo is required. Several days need to be allowed for the search, I flicked through some but did not have enough time to locate any reference to Fitzwilliam properties in Wicklow Town and Dunbur where my interest lay. This link gives a list of Fitzwilliam related material and locations. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/subjectView.asp?ID=F10803 I am sure Sheffield Archives do not restrict searches to UK citizens but a phone call will confirm. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon Kavanagh" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 22, 2009 5:16 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] Manning/From whence they came? > Do the Sheffield Archives hold the complete Fitzwilliam papers including > tenants in Wicklow, Coolatin? 3. Dave You mentioned the name Windgrove or Wingrove and would appreciate any info you have . My ancestors were tennants of the Fitzwilliam Estate & apparently had some connection with Wingrove - perhaps they may have been tennants before my ancestors. According to earlier researchers - my ancestors were traced to Settlewick in Yorkshire. 2. Hi http://kilmoregenealogy.com/hidden_wexford_genealogy/Wexford_Workhouse_Births.htm Do take a look at this site, there are a couple of poor people from Wicklow listed, you never know could be yours. BYRNE CULLEN KELLY BALL Its a sad read showng all people born in the workhouse, the saddest bit I think is the note illigitimate or all right. Yet it says people travelled from afar to have their babies there, makes you wonder what the alternatives were like. Carol

    3. I have uploaded Part 4 (from Yvonne Russell) and Part 5 (Joyce Tunstead) of Redford Catholic Cemetery. So, that is just shy of 245 new headstones. As always do a search in the text file to look for names. Then you can find your headstone photo. It is quicker than working your way through hundreds of headstones. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Pick WICKLOW and then Headstones from the menu. Thanks for Yvonne and Joyce for all this work. :) More to come... Christina Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives

    2. Thanks yet again Cara. Doesnt it make it much easier knowng Nail and Neill and Niles et al could all be linked???? Seriously it does give me yet more to dwell on. Were my Niles Cornish or Welsh miners who came to Wicklow or were they more longstanding Irish family, you just have to look at all the Niles on eg USA census returns who orgnated ireland to see there were more than a few knocking about Ireland at least in the early 1800s. Whatever the answer its great looking into it. Now Im off to see where those burial places are. thanks again carol

    3. Well Joyce, What a useful piece of information. Have to shamefully say that in the many times I use the site I have never scrolled down and found the Search Box. I hang my head. Will have lots of searches now as although my interests are Wicklow and Kilkenny it will now take me a fraction of the time to search and also to cross over for searches into the surrounding Counties in case a family I am looking for moved across the border. Just goes to show how one can see something without actually seeing it if you know what I mean. Hope Cara doesn't read this, she will laugh her head of at me.
