Cara, I have just noticed that the email is not addressed to me so forgive my suggestion that you had been mistaken in sending it to me. I think I need a vacation from my never ending research. Blessings on you Joy
Cara, I dont recognize the Weekes' name or any of the other names mentioned in the will. My interest is Critchley and Kavanagh. You may have me mixed up with someone else. Cara, recently you asked me a question about certificates of my Critchley ancestors' baptisms and the marriage of the gggrandfather John to Ellen Kavanagh. Could you tell me again what would be on the certs. There were 7 children. I have been dealing with many emails from a David Critchley in Australia re our common ancestors. I'm sorry not to have answered your question before this as to would I be satisfied with what you would provide on the certs. Warmest wishes Joy

Hi Jeff, This is really about the Brownriggs. At the marriage of my great grandparents Thomas Haskins and Jane Jones on 18 Sept. 1856 one witness was William Brownrigg. Three of Thomas & Janes children were baptised by Rev. D. Brownrigg : Margaret Letitia Haskins born at Farnees 15 April 1862 was baptised by him on May 25th 1862. Sarah Kate Haskins born at Farnees 21 Nov. 1863 was baptised at Kilcommon Church on 6 Jan. 1864. Mary Alice Haskins born at Farnees 4 Nov. 1865 was baptised at Farnees Wed. 8 Nov. 1865. The next family baptism in Feb. 1868 was performed by Rev. A. Armstrong. Previous to 1862 the baptisms were by Rev. Wm Brandon. I have wondered whether there could be a Brownrigg / Jones connection? I was reading LDS film no. 467304 (Irish Reg. of Deeds for the year 1826). I saw two deeds Nos. 547086 and 547087. I did not transcribe them but made brief notes as follows: No. 547086 Brownrigg to Revell : 27 April 1825. between Henry John Brownrigg of City of Dublin Esq. and John Revell of Sea Park Co. Wicklow Esq. lease of the townland of Magherybegg with the Murragh and Sandbanks .. 87 acres 2 roods !perch bounded by Sea Park / the Estate of John Revell / on the west partly by that part of Magherybegg held by Anne Tyndall widow and partly by the High Road leading from Wicklow to Arklow and on the south by the sea for the lives and life of John Revell the Younger then 23 years William Revell 19 years and Henry Revell then 16 years first second and third sons of the said John Revell. Witnessed by Sandham Symes of Dublin Gent Attorney at Law and Robert Symes Clerk and Apprentice. No. 547087 Brownrigg to Tyndall : Henry John Brownrigg of the City of Dublin Esq to Anne Tyndall 15 acres 2 roods 15 perches for the lives of William Tyndall then of the age of 26 years Gavin Tyndall 24 years and Peter Richardson Tyndall 20 years first third and fourth sons or 31 years .. from 25 March last Rent £30 along with sixpence in the pound Receivers fee. Witnessed by Sandham Symes and Robert Symes as above. Cheers, Betty from sunny Queensland. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Thanks to all who answered my enquiry about Thomas Greene. I am trying to determine the connection between Thomas Greene and the Weeks family of Donaghmore Parish in the 1840's and 1850's. His name was given as a person" to whom known" in an application for assisted passage to Van Diemen's Land, dated May 8th 1849. This application was for Mary Weeks and six of her children. Was he their landlord, employer ??? The Weeks family were Catholic. I have no reason to believe there was a family relationship. Paul Gorry mentions an article in the West Wicklow Historical Society Journal. I live in Sydney, Australia. Can I obtain a copy from here? Yvonne

I thought such data was memorized, a part of the Oral Tradition in Ireland (as on the Continent) because most of the people most of the time were illiterate, from aristocrats to common laborers. Hi Susan.... I'm sorry. I may have gotten your letter and Cara's letter mixed up. I was trying to give names to "Mr. and Mrs. Eagar", parents of Mary Eagar Toole. Patrick and Mary Eagar Toole had 4 children (so far)....Honora, Elizabeth, Laurence and William. Honora and Laurence might have been named after Patrick Toole's parents, and Elizabeth and William after Mary Eagar's parents. The Ellen I mentioned in my letter to you, Baptized in 1842, MAY have been a sister of Mary Eagar Toole, since her parents were William Eagar and Elizabeth Doyle, names given to Mary Eagar Toole's 2nd born children, who might have been named after this particular couple. Does that make sense? lol Peggy

Taken from Ruan O'Donnell's, The Rebellion in Wicklow 1798, Dublin: Irish Academic Press, pp.247-248 This is from the 2nd Battle of Hacketstown: Revd James McGhee with nine orangemen offered strong resistance to rebels who approached the otherwise vulnerable rear wall of the barracks. Among those who had taken refuge in his fortified house was Garret Byrne's estranged wife whom Musgrave alleged he 'wished to get rid of' and a contingent of Donoughmore (Imaal) loyalists who found themselves pitted against many of their Republican neighbours from behind the protection of the stone walls of fortified houses. 284 The Imaal loyalists were very probably supplementary yeoman (sic), given that the majority of military age male Protestant farmers of the valley had enlisted, a commitment which obliged them to evacuate their homes with their families for the comparative safety of Hacketstown and Donard on the onset of rebellion. Some of their peers even left the garrisoned Baltinglass in June in favour of the slightly less threatened sector of Ballitore in Kildare. The Imaal women in McGhee's house procured ammunition and loaded the weapons while their husbands, who included members of the Fenton, Hanbidge and Finlay families, monitored and fired upon the rebels surging around the front of the auxiliary barracks. Finlay was credited with discharging a blunderbuss at close range which 'cut a lane' through attackers who had been advancing under the cover of featherbeds. Moderate clerical magistrates Revd Brownrigg and Revd Blake were praised for their conduct in the battle and were probably with McGhee's group. 285 284 Byrne, Memoirs, 1, p.28 285 McGhee to [Cooke], 7 May 1798, NA, 620/37/31. See also Fitzpatrick, Sham Squire, p.335 and Garret Byrne and Edward Fitzgerald to Portland, 8 April 1799, PRO, HO 100/66/411. Some of McGhee's 'prompt and decided measures' during the rebellion years left him vulnerable to prosecution. Petition of James McGhee, 22 April 1801, NA, OP 104/3 (1a).

Hi Susan... This is a hunch, based on the Irish Naming Pattern. The second born son and daughter were William and Elizabeth. I have a child, Ellen, Baptized 30 December, 1842 in the Arklow R. C. Church. Parents were William Eagar and Elizabeth Doyle of Monatague. Sponsors were James Kavanagh and Sarah Ashford. Peggy
Do you know who Mary Eager's parents were?
Gordon, Rebecca's background is well established. In research I did for and with Tony Valentine in the early 1980s her position in the Valentine family was definitely found. We published the early Valentine material in the first two issues of the West Wicklow Historical Society Journal. We ran out of steam then, so the information on later generations was never published, partly because many of the links had not been definitely established.
