    3. Dear Jeff, Thomas Haskins & Jane Jones were married in the Church of Kilcommon by the Rites and ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland by Licence. The church is in the village of Tinahely. Jane Jones was residing at Farnees near Tinahely in 1856. She was born in Dublin in 1832 and her father was a cabinet maker and joiner, admitted to the Freedom of Dublin in 1839. He was admitted by birth as the son of a Free Citizen, shown by the letter b near his name. The earlier William Jones became a Free Citizen in Easter 1789. The Freedom Rolls at the Dublin City Archives give more detail from 1841 on as regards relationships. I do not know whether Jane's parents were still alive in 1856. Her sister Sarah died at Farnees in 1847 aged 22, but it is the Leonard family listed at Farnees at the time of the Griffiths Valuation. I have got off the topic completely. You asked where the marriage took place. Thomas Haskins lived at Fairwood on one side of Tinahely and Jane Jones at Farnees on the other side. I could have told you in a nutshell, the answer, Tinahely, but there you are. My father was born in Co. Wicklow so I'm half Irish aren't I? Good luck with your Brownriggs, and pity me with my Jones lot, even more common than fleas. 3. Particulars Relative To The Unfortunate Pandolphi's For Whose Murder Walter Read Was Hanged And Quartered On Saturdy Fortnight At Ibree? Castle In The The County Of Wicklow In Ireland. In the year 1783, Mr Pandolphi, in consequence of some domestic misfortunes, as under the necessity of leaving Italy, which was his native country. In the course of his travels he came to Ireland of which he was making the tour, when caught with the scenery of a little spot of ground in the count of Wicklow which overlooked the river Liffey, as well with the hospitality of the neighbours, to one of whom ( Mr Archbold) he bought a letter of recommendation, re resolved on settling there. His household consisted of nothing but a stripling glad, who resided with him, and an old chairwoman ( sic). Having received a very liberal education, and having been addicted to the study of physic, his medicinal skill was eminent, tho he had not studied with a view of practicing. He therefore attended all descriptions of people around him gratis, and was highly esteemed for charity and benevolence. He frequently amused himself in a little school instructing children, and distributing premiums to such as excelled the rest. There was not a poor person in the parish he resided in who was not a pensioner of his , and he took great delight in the payment of their weekly allowance. His servant, whole name was Hugh Read, a brother or a cousin to the wretch who was hanged last Saturday, employed all his confidence. Having received a remittance from his agent in Italy, he communicated to his servant , observing that they could now afford to live well. On hearing this the infamous villain combined with his relation to murder him. Accordingly one night while Pandolphi was loading ? his turf-house he knocked him down with a bar of iron, and his accomplice flying to afflict him, they soon dispatched the unfortunate gentleman. And having stripped him naked, raised the board of the Necessary and threw his body into it, then fettled the board again, washed away the blood and took measures for concealing the horrid deed, and retired to bed. Next morning Hugh read reported, that his Master had left for Dublin, and for near a fortnight, he found means to elude suspicion. But the poor people who were continually inquiring for their much loved patron, observing some articles moving from the house, at length began to suspect all was not fair. They communicated their thoughts to a gentleman, who went to Mr.Pandolphi's and on his inquiring for the doctor,as he was called, the servant made him the usual answer, that he was in Dublin. The servant struck with conscious guilt, found meant to withdraw from the eyes of the gentleman, and effected an escape and the latter was viewing the house. At length he went to the necessary, where he perceived the leg of a human being, which on closer inspection was found to be belong to the corpse of the unfortunate Pandolphi. This transaction happened in October 1785. The villains having escaped were not heard of till Walter was take and he, tormented with the sense of his guilt, confessed the fact and was convicted on his own testimony. The other villain has not yet been heard of , but it is devoutly to be hoped he may meet with that punishment the magnitude of his crime so justly merits Source The Times 1785 Definately in the deep end of things

    2. Shirley Parker
    3. On June 7th there was an email on the list telling Cara that Jane who married Amadeus Valentine was a Blake from memory. I note the names of the children were Francis Blake John James Edward and Thomas. My ggrandmother was named Mary Blake from County Cavan married to a Thomas John Shannon, Cty.Cavan. I have the marriage cert. of my grandparents in Sydney as John Shannon (Cty Cavan) married Catherine Keogh (Cty Wicklow) and the names of the parents of John Shannon were shown as Mary Blake married Thomas John Shannon. On Griffiths Val. I found the names of John,James, Edward and Thomas and think one of these would be tbe father of Mary Blake. I cannot find where Thomas Shannon married Mary Blake but judging on the birthdate of my grandfather I would estimate between 1800 and 1815. /Would anyone have any information on these names please. Any suggestion would be most appreciated. Shirley Parker.

    1. WILLS IN IRELAND -
    2. Cara_Links
    3. Prerogative wills A will Qualified for the Prerogative court if the testator left Property worth over 5 pound. So therefore prerogative wills largely belong to the 1-Wealthiest section of the population in another county also 2-the merchant class who had unsold stock in trade- and in another county 3-those persons who happened to live close to a Diocescan border Until 1810 there was no guiding index to the prerogative wills, but in that year Sir William Betham, Ulster King of Arms, on behalf of the Record Commissioners, superintended the constructional of an alphabetical index to testators. He also wrote many brief genealogical abtracts of almost all those wills that pre dated 1800,and later on produced pedigrees from his notes. The Prerogative Court was abolished by the Probate Act of 1857. The wills and other papers were moved to the Public Record Office, where the Prerogative wills were indexed into a wills book, and these books were indexed in two series, the first ending at 1810 and the second covering the remainder of the period, 1811 -1857. In 1897 Sir Arthur Vicars, Ulster King of Arms, edited a version of the first index, 1536-1810 Arranged alphabetically by surname and christian name, it shows the testators address and occupation with the year of probate ( all on CD released a few years back I have a copy ) The destruction of the Public Record Office in 1920 resulted in the loss of all original Prerogative Wills and most of the Will books into which they had been transcribed. I have also found that the will you want is the one that is missing- But in the library in Dublin is the Lane Poole papers with will extracts from Co Wicklow and Dublin Ms 5339 Also available is the the collection of Wills by W H Welpy consisting of 1500 wills and 100 administrations at the RCB and although I have not as yet been through this source ......... There are other small collections of wills held in different libraries in Ireland that have been compiled by different individuals at some time. The Society of Friends hold the Quaker Wills of which I have compiled many from this source. I guess I could go on an on about whats available and whats not But this may give you a little closer look at what a prerogative will covers Cheers Cara
