I didn't find any placename starting with "Munam", but there is a townland right next to Ballycreen named Moneymeen. This might be spoken, and heard, as "Munameen". 3. My first question is have you searched the archives of this list for the names you seek as we have from time to time had some very merry chases for this said name, there is in the archives a file called Byrne baby Byrne which was compiled with many Byrne names in it .............worth a look at --- Yes indeed it is, it may lead you some where even if it is only to re-assure you that it has created hours of pain just trying to match the Byrnes names to the correct wife or the correct children to the right parents. Or indeed the right graveyard. CARA ©Cara_Links Researching Co.Wicklow,Wexford. A friend is one who accepts your past, loves you as you are, and believes in your tomorrows

    1. Re: IRL-WICKLOW-BYRNE/FOLEY/DOYLE
    2. Hi Deb... Don't know whether or not we have corresponded, but here's something that will interest you... Laurence Doyle married Bridget Foley 16 February, 1824 in the Rathdrum R. C. Church. The witnesses were Peter Foley and Margaret Reilly. The residence was listed as Ballycran. (I have a question mark next to the spelling of Ballycran). I have four Baptismal Records for their children: Hugh Baptized 18 October, 1825 - sponsors Peter Foley and Margaret Reilly Mary Baptized 10 July, 1827 - sponsors Andrew Byrne and Elizabeth Foley Thomas Baptized 30 April, 1829 - sponsors Michael Doyle and Mary Byrne Patrick Baptized 11 September, 1831 - sponsors Thomas Foley and Mary Fleming The microfilm page was in fairly bad condition, and hard to read in parts. Most of the residence entries were blank, but next to Hugh's record was written Munam__?? Also, Patrick's mother's name was listed as Bridget Foley/Tobin?. Again, Tobin is what I made out of it. I also have a Laurence, Baptized 24 November, 1833 to Laurence Byrne and Biddy Fahey or Foley (my notes indicate Fahey name was questionable and might be Foley). Sponsors for this child were Michael Byrne and Mary Reilly. All the above records were transcribed by me, from Microfilm # 6476 (National Library, Dublin). Rathdrum Church Records. I have a Marriage record for a John Doyle who married a Bridget Byrne 23 January 1837. The witnesses were: Catherine Thumpson and Elizabeth Foley, also a Rathdrum record. I pass it along only because one the witnesses was a Foley, and the year might be right. The residence was listed as Ballycreen. note: Laurence and Bridget Foley's daughter Mary's sponsor was an Elizabeth Foley. That's all I have at the moment. Hope this helps, Peggy Leonard/NY

    1. BYRNE of Ballycreen, Co. Wicklow
    2. BRIAN PETERSON
    3. Hoping that with this being rather a slow time, someone might be able to spend time helping me to locate information about my relatives. I realize that BYRNE is a very common name, and I am willing to sift through every bit of information anyone is able to share. Here's what I have so far: Hugh Byrne (1765-1830) married Margaret Doyle Their son, Laurence Byrne (1795-1834) married Biddy Foley. Laurence died young and his wife married a neighbor, DOYLE and they along with 2 two of Laurence and Biddy's children came to the US and settled in Wisconsin. Any information would be most appreciated. Sincerely, Deb Peterson

    3. Margaret The problem is at your end not at rootsweb, I have checked your emailing address and it is correct, your mails are coming to the list and for you to be seeing this you must be receiving mail through the list, its just that no one is posting any thing at all. So the mail you received via the list yesterday was the only mail any of us received which was one from you one from Cyril to you I see that both mails made the archives so therefore Margaret you are receiving and sending mail quite okay. Listers are at the moment either enjoying the sun, or hibernating, so somewhere in amongst this there research has slowed down, so hence no mails to the list on said subject. Cheers Cara List Admin

    3. Margaret, try looking in your blocked senders list for the problem, you may have inadvertently hit on the list and set it as for blocking. It's easily done, or maybe at some time you might have bounced something by accident. This also applies if you have a program for screening mails such as Mailwasher etc.. slan Cyril... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Enright" <menright2@cogeco.ca> To: <IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2005 11:54 PM Subject: RE: [Wicklow] WILLS IN IRELAND - > Hi Cara; > > Problems with my computer but it seems to be fixed I am not receiving any > e-mail > From the Wicklow list can you help me. > > Sincerely > > Margaret Eenright > Burlington, Ontario > > menright2@cogeco.ca > > >-----Original Message----- > >From: Cara_Links [mailto:cracker@hotkey.net.au] > >Sent: June 11, 2005 5:06 AM > >To: IRL-WICKLOW-L@rootsweb.com > >Subject: [Wicklow] WILLS IN IRELAND - > > > >Prerogative wills > >A will Qualified for the Prerogative court if the testator > >left Property worth over 5 pound. > >So therefore prerogative wills largely belong to the > >1-Wealthiest section of the population in another county also > >2-the merchant class who had unsold stock in trade- and in > >another county 3-those persons who happened to live close to > >a Diocescan border Until 1810 there was no guiding index to > >the prerogative wills, but in that year Sir William Betham, > >Ulster King of Arms, on behalf of the Record Commissioners, > >superintended the constructional of an alphabetical index to > >testators. > >He also wrote many brief genealogical abtracts of almost all > >those wills that pre dated 1800,and later on produced > >pedigrees from his notes. > >The Prerogative Court was abolished by the Probate Act of 1857. > >The wills and other papers were moved to the Public Record > >Office, where the Prerogative wills were indexed into a wills > >book, and these books were indexed in two series, the first > >ending at 1810 and the second covering the remainder of the > >period, 1811 -1857. > >In 1897 Sir Arthur Vicars, Ulster King of Arms, edited a > >version of the first index, 1536-1810 Arranged alphabetically > >by surname and christian name, it shows the testators address > >and occupation with the year of probate ( all on CD released > >a few years back I have a copy ) The destruction of the > >Public Record Office in 1920 resulted in the loss of all > >original Prerogative Wills and most of the Will books into > >which they had been transcribed. > > > >I have also found that the will you want is the one that is > >missing- But in the library in Dublin is the Lane Poole > >papers with will extracts from Co Wicklow and Dublin Ms 5339 > > > >Also available is the the collection of Wills by W H Welpy > >consisting of 1500 wills and 100 administrations at the RCB > >and although I have not as yet been through this source ......... > > > >There are other small collections of wills held in different > >libraries in Ireland that have been compiled by different > >individuals at some time. > >The Society of Friends hold the Quaker Wills of which I have > >compiled many from this source. > > > >I guess I could go on an on about whats available and whats > >not But this may give you a little closer look at what a > >prerogative will covers > > > >Cheers > >Cara > > > > > > > >==== IRL-WICKLOW Mailing List ==== > >Stick to the lists Golden Rule and you will never go wrong, > >Co Wicklow genealogy~history~news~ and be nice to one another. > > > >============================== > >Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your > >family and the areas they lived.
