    1. RE: [Wicklow] SHELTON AND BEATTIE AND BEATTY
    2. Cara Thanks for the info, been a bit out of the loop due to a family emergency that has required all my free time. I think that John Beatty of Shelton is indeed my uncle. The letter from him indicates that he would be approximately that age in 1844. Is there any way or where would I go to get more information to determine if Eleanor is his wife, I would assume so but I never assume anything in this research. Michael of Shelton could be the third son. I have a John and Alar and 1 nameless. Uncle John's brother named a son Michael but not sure if the same names would be used, could be their father's name. There are also 3 nameless daughters although hints. I don't have my data with me as I am on business travel in Edinburgh, so close yet so far from Ireland when you have not enough time to pop across the Irish Sea and be there. The Beattys of Ballinacor I can't find as good as a potential connection, it will be listed as wait and see. Where is Ballinacor? I am hoping to get to Ireland in the next year if all goes well. Any help in guiding me to where to research would be most appreciated as always. You are a great person to help us all so much in our research. I just can't thank you enough. 2. This is a huge thank you to Cara - Yesterday while scouring the "net", I found a marriage announcement for Richard Beacham Alcock; parents George Alcock and Jane Glynn of Wicklow. I passed this on to another family member in Ontario and he was motivated to do some searching and came up with a post of Cara's on Rootsweb - Cara Links- a birth of Elizabeth Jane Alcock, parents George Alcock and Jane Glynn. Confirmation of a branch of my family that has been elusive for so long, and confirmation that my Alcock line came from Wicklow. If anyone else has any information about George Alcock and Jane Glynn, please post - with my trip to Ireland coming up in October, this information will be invaluable and save many hours of searching. Thanks Cara! Terri Alcock

    3. Hi everyone: I am new to this sight and hope someone can help me out. My grandma, Annie Fennell (1861) was born and raised in Holdenstown, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow area with rest of her siblings. I have info on them. Some of the siblings were listed as being born in Baltinglass or Rathvilly. Her parents were Henry Fennell born around 1846-7 in Mayo, Co Queens/Laois. His father was William Fennell (b. about 1824) and wife Elizabeth________ born about 1817 and died 1910. Her mother was Dorcas Jones born 1844 and died 1929-30. Her parents were Robert Jones and Rebecca Carpenter - living in the Baltinglass area. Dorcas had a cousin with the last name Williams. Dorcas inherited the home place plus Mt. Kelly. Later she bought Ballybeg in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow. Her daughter Elizabeth Fennell Salter owned Ballybit, Co. Carlow. I am looking to find more complete info on above as well as siblings of Dorcas and Henry, cousins, aunts and uncles. I believe my Fennell and Jones family may have originated in England and settled in the area. Maybe even getting some of the land in Ireland from the English because of their military services..... The family was well off and were Protestant. I would also like to have more info on the battle at Castlecomer, co Kilkenny I think from the 1700s. It is said that some of my Fennel and/or Jones family were in that battle. Thanks for any help you can provide. Carol Synnott Nelson

    3. Dear Mary, Broken arm!? Hmmm, how does one get one sitting in front of a computer? Best wishes for a speedy recovery! The Brownrigg-Jones marriage I was talking of was that of John Brownrigg, who resided in Mullins, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and m. ? Jones in Oct 1802 [according to Henry Farrar, Irish Marriages, Being an Index to the Marriages In Walker's Hibernian Magazine. (Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, MD, 1972; also on Ancestry as a database), at p. 59. I don't have your Mary Jane Brownrigg and Stanley Vaughan Jones - would appreciate an off-list message re: same. 1. Upper Talbotstown/Kiltegan
    2. Hello Listers I have a document, which I think must be the Giffith Evaluation or Tithe Applotment [these were obtained by my sister on a trip to Ireland last year and she did not make note of the source. [perhaps someone will recognize the format. County of Wicklow Barony of Upper Talbotstown, Parish of Kiltegan, Union of Baltinglass, Electoral Divison of Humewood Townlands and Occupiers Immediate Lessors Muckduff Lower John Wilson Thomas Hopson For all 6 names William Driver William W. F. Hume George Driver George Alcock William Moody Denis Byrne George Driver Thomas Byrne William Driver William Driver William W. F. Hume Vacant William Driver The next column is a list of what is leased, then the acreage, and then the Rateable Annual Valuation. Muckduff Upper John Wilson Thomas Hopson William Driver for all six George Driver William W. H. Humewood George Alcock William Moody Description says "Land [Mountain]" and it seems the total was 19 pounds for 483 acres. Hope these names will ring a bell for someone. My particular interests are ALCOCK, DRIVER and MOODY. Also hoping someone can explain whether it was common for a group of people to lease a tract of land together? thanks, Terri Alcock

    1. ALCOCK/GLYNN
    2. Looking for information about a Jane GLYNN of Co. Wicklow, who married George ALCOCK, also of Co Wicklow. They had a daughter Mary Jane ALCOCK who visited Ontario and married her cousin Richard Beacham ALCOCK II in 1892 at age 29, so that would mean she was born abt. 1863. Jane GLYNN was probably born about 1820, possibly in the Kiltegan/Baltinglass area, though this is only an educated guess. Are there any others on the list researching the GLYNN name? Terri Alcock

    1. Pearce Family - Fitzwilliam tennants
    2. Mary Louise Lidbetter
    3. Would some one who has access to the CD of Fitzwilliam tennants, be so kind as to check if there is any record to the following members of the Pearce family William Pearce Born 1786 (presumed Yorkshire) Married Betsy...Carnew Co. Wicklow Ireland 1822 then Elizabeth Kerr in 1825 - 4 sons 7 daughters Robert Pearce Born 1830 Shillelagh Co Wicklw Ireland Married Louisa Walford Jones 1854 6 sons 1 daughter. I have no further details on any of the family of the above people except for the direct male line. My information comes from a family tree copied by the above Robert Pearce on 21st July 1877 from an earlier tree and goes back to 1645 in Durham England. I would be interested in any information at all on this family. The only descendant I have known was a Harry Weir from Tinahely who said he thought William Pearce had come over with Fitzwilliam Thank you - in anticipation. Mary L. Lidbetter, Berry NSW Australia

    3. Dear Listes and Archive hunters I have this common family within my data base files, they are as common as common can be, but my main concern is if one marries the other what will they name the children for example If Miss ? married Mr Unknown would she have a quantity of questionable children or would the children remain Unknown quantities with a questionable background. Now we all have these in our files Mr and Mrs Unknown and Mr and Mrs ? How do we solve this dilemma well as I am in the pickle jar with all of you and cannot figure this out alone, perhaps if we began the hunt for these unknown maiden names and parents ON LIST might solve some of our UNKNOWN and QUESTIONABLE families. So I am going to list some of my unknown in the hope that someone if not on this list -as a lister- but in the future while foraging in the archives someone may find this mail and assist me I will be forever grateful for any assistance given..........
