    1. Re: [Wicklow] SHELTON AND BEATTIE AND BEATTY
    2. I am planning a trip to Ireland in October and would very much appreciate some assistance. I will be travelling to Co. Wicklow and wish to find the following places if somebody could guide me: 1. Old Kilbride Cemetery; 2. Shelton, I know that Shelton Abby is on Beech road but could not find this on the map; 3. Is there an Anglican Church close to Shelton or Old Kilbride; 4. My ggggrandparents were married in Arklow, is there some a place there to research records. Daniel Beatty was Anglican but I am not sure about Jane Smith although I am told she was born there; 5. Any recommendations for record searching, either Anglican Church or civil registers; 6. Good places to stay at reasonable costs in that general area. We do enjoy B&Bs as you get to meet and know people that way or Inn type accommodation or good Pubs for my husband to wait it as I visit cemeteries and churches. Any assistance, recommendations, suggestions most welcome and very much appreciated. I am so excited to be going but just don't know where to start other than I must go to Old Kilbride Cemetery thanks to Cara who found some records for John Beatty (Beattie) there. I would love to meet the man she described in a previous email, who knows every stone and was responsible with Cara for getting money to clean up the cemetery. Thank you. Charlene

    1. RE: [Wicklow] Kings & Queens of England
    2. There's a reference in this timeline to 'Spanish Vikings' which I find surprising. And yes, it's most unlikely that Richard I spoke English. He certainly didn't speak Old English, and Middle English was scarcely in existence in 1200. The court spoke Norman French. For masses of stuff on this, see Crystal's 'The Stories of English'. 3. Hi Julie, This might be surperflous information but I am presently going through the LDS Family History Centre library film " Parochial Register of Hacketstown (Carlow and Wicklow) 1820 - 1880" (Film No 926115 Item1). I am looking for my Wicklow Traynor/Trainors and I have found a couple. Some things stick with you for a while, and I recall the name Keogh popping up reasonably often in this record. Maybe there are a few of your Wicklow Keoghs in there. There are no Keoghs in my tree (so far) but if you come across any Wicklow Traynors in your tree I would appreciate it if you let me know. Beware the film is rather difficult to read and so, like me, you might have to go over it a couple of times. In fact, there are only four townlands in Ardoyne CP, and Ardoyne townland accounts for over half of the area of the parish (the townland is 971 acres). Ardoyne townland has a more than four mile-long common border with Co. Carlow, and it is located just 2 miles ESE of Tullow town in Co. Carlow. There is a "poorly preserved" old church ruin in the townland, in conjunction with a graveyard which "contains a small number of late eighteenth-century headstones". There also appears to be a current Church of Ireland church in the townland (Holy Trinity?). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

    2. Cara_Links
    3. Kathleen 'Kitty' Doyle from Aughrim, who was in her early 70s when she died last week, was essentially a family person and a good neighbour. A daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Byrne, life for Kitty began at Killacloran and she later married Stephen (Sam) Doyle and together they reared a family of four sons, Michael, Brian, Alan and Gerry and one daughter Margaret. at Our Lady's Drive, Aughrim. Her husband Sam died some years ago and she was also predeceased by one son Gerry who died at a young age. During her life time she worked in Dublin and in Arklow. She was a very kind person and her friendliness endeared her to all who knew her. Kitty was a devoted mother to her family, loved children, and was a staunch supporter of the local school. Her passing is much regretted in the area, not least by her family and relatives and the many neighbours to whom she was a true friend. Evidence of the high esteem in which she and her family are held in the community was manifest at her funeral, with the Requiem Mass concelebrated by V. Rev. Jerry O'Brien, Fr. C. Allman and Monsignor James Hammil, PP., Annacurra. Burial took place in Macreddin Cemetery. Wicklow People Feb 2006
