    3. I recently recorded the attestation of the baptism of John Halpin at Wicklow Town Church of Ireland that took place on 3rd July 1805. The attestation is dated March 1826 and is co-signed by JOSEPH SUTTON, church warden. In Wicklow Town, Dr James Henry Halpin (c.1861-1916), a son of Dr George Halbert Halpin and his wife Eliza Bradley, I have recorded as marrying in 1898 ADELAIDE MAUD SUTTON. In the 1901 Census, in the household of Dr James and Adelaide Halpin was living Martha Florence Eatton (sic), unmarried, who is described there as Dr Halpin's sister in law. I think the implication of this is that Adelaide's maiden name had been Eatton (or, I think, Eaton) and that she had been married previously to a Sutton and presumably was widowed. James was nearly 37 when he married Adelaide. The birthplace of both Adelaide and Martha is recorded as Wexford. Did Adelaide Eaton marry one of your Suttons? Why were the children of Richard Sutton Painter named Sutton? Could he have been Richard Sutton, painter? Could the Joseph Sutton (mature in 1826) be a progenitor? The records of Wicklow Church of Ireland are reasonably complete. Bill. -----Original Message----- From: irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dave Griffiths Sent: Tuesday, 8 June 2010 7:05 AM To: irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-WICKLOW] KROENER / (Glencree SUTTON's) Lookup please ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Newton" <denthefossicker@gmail.com> Dear Dennis This is what I had on the Suttons Dave Descendants of Richard Sutton ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- 1. 2. Cara, What about the very large twinkle when they named TWO towns in Kilkenny the same! Muckalee and Muckally (which just for fun became Muckalee also) So anyone researching their family and finds them in Mucklee can get very badly led astray (hands up to that one.) I mean really, two in the same county, Paddy ---- Cara_Links <Cara_Links@bigpond.com> wrote: > Newbridge - Avoca CO Wicklow > Newbridge -Kildare Co Kildare > > You do have to be so careful the Irish had a twinkle in their eye and a skip > in their toes when they were allowed to name Irish Townlands, they applied > several of the same names to many of townlands in surrounding > Counties............ > > Cheers > Cara > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Pauline Hall" <pphall10@bigpond.net.au> > To: "WICKLOW" <IRL-WICKLOW@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, June 06, 2010 11:31 AM > Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Newbridge > > > > Hi, > > Can anyone tell me where NEWBRIDGE is n Co. The details I have are: Francis Byrne, 60, Head, RC Mary Byrne, 62, his wife, RC - maiden name Carton Patrick Byrne, 15, son, RC Annah (Anna) Byrne, 12, daughter, RC They were living in house no 22 Vevay Road Eastside (Bray, Wicklow) Anna was found in service on the 1911 census but no sign of parents or brother. Parents may have died and/or emmigrated as could son ...... and could there have been other siblings? I'm pretty sure they were alive when my mother was born in Bray Head in 1919. Where do I go from here? TIA. Anna

They had a son, also named Martin, who was born in 1837 in Ireland. Martin Jr turned up as a copper miner in Ontonagon, MI, USA in 1860 US Census. Found again in Hudson MI, USA in 1880 Census. Died 1899 in Hudson, MI. Have been unable to find Martin & Mary anywhere. Any ideas? Dan Connors

The sad thing is that James & Mary Doyle is such a common set of names in Wicklow. I feel this family is from the Dunlavin area. James was listed as a farmer on Simon's marriage cert. The name SIMON is not very common in Catholic Ireland, but there seems to have been a few in the Dunlavin area and so it must have been a family name passed down through generations. I'm hoping the SIMON part will ring some bells, or help me connect with somebody. THANKS AGAIN!! Hilda

    2. .I have successfully found my grandmother, Anna Byrne in 1901 at house 22 in Vevay Road Eastside in Bray with her parents Francis Byrne and Mary Carton and brother Patrick. On attempting to finding the family in 1911, the closest I can find is a Forde family at house 3 in Newtown Vevay (Bray no 3). The family includes Patrick Byrne aged 23 (15 in 1901). The family consists of Catherine Forde, 71, head, Annie Forde, 30, daughter, Dill Doyle, 75, brother, William Byrne, 26, grandson, Patrick Byrne, 25, grandson and Richard Clifton, 10, grandson. If this Patrick Byrne is my grandmother's brother, then I have gone a long way to finding the missing side of the family in one fell swoop. Perhaps someone already knows this family and could confirm or otherwise Patrick's parentage. TIA Anna Thomas

    1. [IRL-WICKLOW] 1901 census on line now!!!
    2. Wow! The 1901 Census is amazing! I have spent YEARS wondering about my Henry Peter Smith. All I knew was Summerhill, Wicklow Co., and the year he was born 1890. I plugged that info into their 1901 search engine and, with some refined searching, was so surprised to see his whole family appear, with the name of his parents. He was such an exceptional man (I know we all feel that way about our people). See him at my website, http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~taleese/hpsmith/ Wonderful work getting those census reports online! >Tanya in USA
