Since you now know a place, you can check the Land Index and see if there are any registered leases relating to his occupancy. From land records you may be able to tell when he arrived, where he came from in Co. Carlow, and possibly something about marriages in his family. Likewise you can track the Philip Hickeys... If you can get a place name in Co Carlow there may be Parish records there to check, as well as cemetery records..
