Hi Peggy, thank you so much. I did not know that there was not a Catholic church in Gorey at that period. I know that some of the RC churchs (and C of I) were burned during the 1798 rebellion and that it took many years to rebuild some of them. Perhaps that is why there was not one there during the 1840s. I will certainly consult the records you mention. No that is not the reason why there was not a RC Church in Gorey at all, and as my fingers will have to type up the necessary story, you will have to watch this space. But it was not because it was burnt or took forever to rebuild, it was a simple case of a Protestant landlord owning most of Gorey and not a RC Man.
