Peter, You may have the same problem that I have. First, Collins is the anglicization of Cullinan(e) (and Quillinan and Quinlan and Callinan), and it is usually used by those who were Protestant, or Protestant in the past. At some point you may have to revert to C of I records as I did on Gardner. My ancestor was also a tailor and learned the trade in the army and that is where I found the records. I looked and there was a Thomas Collins born in Cork abt 1806, and another born in Limerick abt 1810, another in Cork abt 1802, and one born in Duncormack, Wexford abt 1772, and a couple of others. Any one of these might have opted to live in Wexford after they retired out. You can see these by searching the National Archives Catalog [not the Archives] at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp Put in the name and then WO for the department. Leave the dates blank. The only ones that appear here are the ones that were once in Kilmainham hospital at some point and not all the men with that name who were in service. Sadly many records are lost. Janet On 7/5/07, Keith Collins <[email protected]> wrote: > I know this sounds obvious, are you focusing on the Cork area?
