Terry, I really agree with you. For YEARS I have been trying to get my GARDNER line in Wexford. I have finally given up on the "missing" Bannow parish book ever showing up - well, almost given up. After YEARS, I might finally have a clue as to who my Thomas Gardner might be, since he only married and lived in Wexford, but probably was not born here. He may be the Thomas Gardner who was born in Waterford City and joined the army. For YEARS I have been trying to find the Bannow line of BROADERS/BROTHERS, one of whom, Martin, was a witness at the wedding of the son, Daniel, Thomas Gardner and Bridget Keogh, and I have finally succeeded. Now we might see if Martin Brothers was related to my Thomas or just a friend, and would his age make him a contemporary of Thomas, the father, or Daniel, the son. If he is Thomas's age, he will be the Martin Brothers that was in the same army unit as Thomas. It may be the only tenuous link I will ever get, barring the return of the missing Bannow book [and whoever has it needs to return it!] I will go forward on this sort of iffy link and trace Thomas in Waterford City as best I can; I have his parents, but they may not be from Waterford originally either. The point of this message is not to give up, and to look at things like the witnesses at baptisms and weddings and all sorts of things to move forward. Now, how did I find the right Broaders family. I found a note in the new book on the Hook Peninsula that talked of Fr. Broaders, who had a brother in Bannow, and who chased the ghost from Loftus hall. I got on-line and read everything I could about Fr. Broaders and the ghost story, and came upon the name of a woman who said she was related to the good Fr. Luckily, she was in the phone book, and I talked to her about what I was after. She, in turn, spoke to someone else and they to another, and the next thing I knew I was talking to a most charming Broaders man, a storyteller, who knows who to talk to in order to find out more about Marrtin Broaders. It isn't easy, but it sure is fun!! One of the baptism sponsors for Daniel in Ballycullane was a George Murphy, by the way. Now how many George Murphy's can there be in Ballycullane? Seems like George would be a pretty rare Christian name for a Murphy. Janet
There are a number of Broaders in Newfoundland. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet Crawford" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2007 11:30 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] RE BONKERS > On 7/4/07, terry murphy <[email protected]> wrote: >> Hi Listers ,I wish to just make a comment here re going bonkers .
