Hi, I am also searching for Doyles from Wexford. My great grandmother was Mary Tobin, born 1900 in Dublin and her mother was Bridget Doyle. Bridget married Peter Tobin in Gorey and they moved to Dublin shortly afterwards. Bridget's parents were Patrick Doyle and Mary, nee Lalor. They are buried in the graveyard in Gorey and we managed to find the gravestone last time we were in Ireland. Patrick died 24 November 1906 and the age on his headstone is 84 so he was born around 1822. Mary Lalor died 25 January 1894 aged 65 and so she was born around 1829. I have their death certificates, which are consistent with the gravestone Patrick is found in Gorey Workhouse in the 1901 census and it states he was born in Gorey. Any help with this family would be appreciated, I've been sidetracked with my Perry ancestors for the last year or two, Vicki Perry _________________________________________________________________ The next generation of Hotmail is here! http://www.newhotmail.co.uk
This is my first time posting to this list. I am seeking information on Nicholas O'Neill and his family. Nicholas was born Abt. 1780 in Co. Wexford. Unfortunately, I do not have the exact parish information. His gravestone states Temeny, but I could find no references to Temeny in Wexford. I feel that it was a transcription error due in part to the wearing of the stone and also that it is not uncommon to find inscriptions on stones spelled incorrectly. I have a very strong feeling that they may originate from St. Mary's, Enniscorthy, but I have no proof of this. What I do know is that they knew the Cullen and Kinsella families and these families settled in the same area after they immigrated to the US. In 1841, Nicholas and family are found on the English census living in Liverpool. Nicholas, his wife, Mary, and their children Ellen, James, John, Martin, Nicholas and Mary (Molly). Also living with the family is Patrick Kinsella (Kinsley) and David, Joseph and Elizabeth (Betsey) Cullen. I do not know exactly when they arrived in Liverpool, but it was some time between their daughter Mary's birth (1830) and the date of the census as Mary was born in Ireland. On July 23, 1841, Nicholas and Mary O'Neill, their children and both the Cullen family and Patrick Kinsella (Kinsley) sailed from Liverpool to New York on the ship New Hampshire. From there they made their way to an area of Northeastern Pennsylvania called the Irish Settlement which had been settled by John Kinsella (b. 15 Aug 1805, Co. Wexford) and his wife Catherine Quinn, also of Co. Wexford. The main "settlement" is located in Stowell in Wyoming County; however, many of the families branched out into neighboring townships and counties since settlement was only one mile from the county line. These families settled into the Bradford/Wyoming/Sullivan counties area. Specifically in the townships of Wilmot and Albany in Bradford County, Windham and North Branch in Wyoming County, and Colley and Cherry in Sullivan County where they either worked as farmers, miners or on the canal. Any information at all regarding Nicholas, his wife or the Wexford O'Neill's would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Leigh Taffe Acla

Hi, Terry. My O'Neill family was in the US by 1841. There could possibly be a connection. Perhaps cousins? -Leigh ----- Original Message ----- From: "terry murphy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2007 2:26 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] Nicholas O'Neill and family > Hi Leigh ,my name is Terry Murphy from brisbane Aust just quickly one of > my > Murphy baptism was a Bridget Murphy and one Godparent was " Msoes Neill " > any of yours by any chance the bapt was 7-5-1858 Cheers Terry > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Leigh Taffe Acla" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2007 6:49 PM > Subject: [IRL-WEXFORD] Nicholas O'Neill and family > > >> This is my first time posting to this list.
