While searching these baptismal records for my Sinnott surnames from Co Wexford, I came across this site and noted many names of interest. My ancestors came from Castletown near Gorey and I would like to figure out how the addresses list below relate to Castletown especially Scar. abbreviated from what ??? Also I am still very curious of the listings with female nicknames, most of which are very obvious, but the ones listed as "Anty" that are quite numerous have me baffled, The only plausible response last time was Anastasia, so I hope someone has a listing of female nicknames that can confirm this. (IT IS OBVIOUS FROM THE LAST THREE LISTED BELOW WHICH INDICATE THAT THE MOTHER'S NAME IS "ANTY" THAT IT IS NOT AN ENDEARING NICKNAME FOR YOUR FAVORITE AUNTIE ) TIA for your input and responses...............edbld Church: County WEXFORD, Rathanga Baptisms. Anty is definitely the diminuitive for Anastasia (however spelled). -- T.M. Sommers -- tmsommers2@gmail.com -- ab2sb
Hi Edbld, if memory serves me right Anty was a short form for Anastatia. Well Castletown is on the COurtown road via Gorey Co Wexford so I suspect you are looking at Scarnagh which is located in the same area of more pacific, Inch by Gorey Also you will need to remember that Castletown was listed as a Halfbarony of Arklow. You will also need to remember that Cara has headstones from this area and I guess if she looked the Sinnott or Synot name would be among them. Also if you look in the archives of the Co Wicklow List you will find under Castletown further reading on the church etc in this area. Cheers for now you know my address if you want more information Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "edd73" <edd73@embarqmail.com> To: "IRL-WEXFORD-List" <IRL-Wexford-L@rootsweb.com> Cc: "Edd" <edbld1@embarqmail.com> Sent: Friday, May 14, 2010 7:53 AM Subject: [IRL-WEXFORD] Address locations and female names > While searching these baptismal records for my Sinnott surnames from Co > Wexford, I came across this site and noted many names of interest. Still looking for info on Alice Thompson b 1820-1825 later censii just say Wexford. Her father was Nathaniel a Bookmaker, she had an illegit child with James Hoare( b around 1805 in Cork) in Dublin Dec 28th 1847. Child named James, later christened in 1861 John James Hoare in Liverpool. Their family was Protestant in 1860s and James Hoare came from a Protestant family. She and James Hoare finally married in 1872 in Liverpool(had he been married previously and his wife was now dead??) where they lived from at least 1861 census. A Nathaniel Thompson is mentioned as being a church warden in 1807 in the vestry Book of St Mogue's Church, Ballycanew (5 miles S of Gorey).. could this be a lead? In 1870 a list of property owners in Wexford list the representatives of Nathaniel Thompson deceased (sadly no address given) held 1 acre Does this fit in with anyone's Thompson Family research? Is anyone missing an Alice Thompson b around this time? Help! jane
