Dear Listers, I am not hear to cause a flame, but to place before you all, my feelings of frustration and disgust, or is it hurt, more likely hut. I received quite by accident a mail, that was meant for a *silent Lister* one who is sitting there, deciding what mails they would answer and all for gain, either personal ego, or a gift. ~and all go off list no one sees the mail from this silent lister. All this is allowed, and may be done - nothing to do with me- until I see that gain is involved. In the beginning Rootsweb lists:- Were the only things available that was free and worthwhile when we began looking for our ancestors, and now they have slowed to a trickle, back then friendships were made and research was enhanced with a friendly camaderie, the hobby grew , now it is a tired business, where everyone desires to gather and not share, take and not give, and the competition against Rootsweb, with all the data etc coming online is showing in the amount of mails that are slowing down is beginning to make you wonder if there is a future for the Lists which is sad. - so I bring myself to point out if you are receiving the information BEHIND the list, that you requested is it too hard to then to inform the list, so that others who have taken the time to continue the search, for your said data, can move on and help someone who does need assistance. It need only be a short mail that says, this is what I received Joe Citizen married Miss Hardworker 1855 Many thanks Miss Needed Furthermore, from this day forward whilst I have tons of data on Wexford/Wicklow/and other counties none will hold the full date or information ever again, I am no longer going to aid and assist those persons, who are gathering and using sources, and other persons hard work, dates etc, to gain for themselves recognition in a field that I value, which is sharing data for FREEto all who are seeking Irish ancestry. A thankyou and a smile should be enough if you use ROOTSWEB free lists. I wont be denying my help and assistance to the genuine researcher but I am placing my case here so you may understand why my mails have slowed, why my mails in the future will say, if you need more contact me. I remain a bit lost for words now ( thank goodness you all say) Yours in Gen Cara
Hi Cara, I'm quite perplexed by your e-mail and guess I'm out of the loop on just what this is about. I have always appreciated your help and am happy to share any information I come across. I think the List is invaluable and I've been able to connect others to information as well. Thank you for all of your help along the way. Hi Cara, I agree with you about those that take and never give. It is people like you that have been the foundation of this wonderful movement of people all over the world researching their family lines. I have been fortunate enough to have met kind souls such as your self in the diffrent countries that I have ancestors. I think we all have to share what we can of our resources and pass them on to others as we can. God bless you Cara, you have helped me so very much as you have many others. Dear Cara, what a huge disappointment to discover that this was happening ...... somehow you do expect that this field is one of the few left in this world where genuine helpfulness and altruism would carry on as it has in the past, to all our collective benefit. But carry on Cara, there are enough good people left, and we must keep up the good work despite the efforts of the greedy to frustrate what we do.
