Thanks Cara The Baptism Certificate has parents Peter O'Brien and Katherine Flynn, and sponsors James Flynn and Mary Brien [not O'Brien - interchangeable ?]. The 1901 census has the family in Arklow - children Peter[16], Myles[15], Patrick[14], John[11], Kate[8], Mathew[6], Ellen[5], James[4] and Michael[3] all born in Wexford, so they must have moved to Arklow after 1898 or so. I have found photo's of Peter's and Katherine's graves in Arklow in the family papers. Peter [senior] died 11/9/1938 and Katherine 18/10/1943. The 1901 census has their ages as 40 and 33, but the 1911 census as 56 and 50. Myles married Margaret Heaney in Arklow on 28/9/1908 and emigrated to South Africa around 1910, where my family grew up. Myles died in Durban on 21/6/1956. I would like to work backwards from Peter and Katherine if possible, but I don't know when they were born or where. Thanks for you help. Brendan, I believe Flynn is not that common a name in Wexford. My wife is a Flynn from the Enniscorthy area, but her antecedents seemed to move around a little to the north. The current senior FLYNN in our family has told me that there are FLYNNs north of Enniscorthy, but he doesn't know anything about them. I have checked our tree and we do not have a Katherine or a James but that could be because my eyes gave out after several days reading hand written latin script in Dublin trying to go further back searching all the church records I could lay my hands on. Come to think of it, I still have all the transcription scribblings of the FLYNN name are filed somewhere. Trouble is, we have been doing this for over 15 years so it might take a little while to find them. Does you certificate say where the baptism took place? Sorry if the details were in a previous email - I would not have read it as the lead name was O'Brien - nothing personal ;-)) Alan in North Wales Mandy & Brendan O'Brien wrote: > Thanks Cara > > > > The Baptism Certificate has parents Peter O'Brien and Katherine Flynn, and > sponsors James Flynn and Mary Brien [not O'Brien - interchangeable ?].
