Hi All Won't Michael need to know more ordering details? Michael, you should be able to get volume number etc from https://www.familysearch.org/ or he may pay for searching as well. Also, you don't need the full certificate, you can get a copy of the record for about 3 euros. Look carefully at the form you download, the copy part is near the end. -----Original Message----- From: Mary Ellen Chambers Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2011 1:14 AM To: irl-wexford@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] FOLEY in and around Gorey Michael~ If her birth year was 1865 she has a Civil Birth Certificate. You can order it from the General Records Office County Roscommon. They have ALL the counties civil records and you can use your credit card. Just GOOGLE that GRO. On the tool bar far RT is births. Click. You will be taken to that part of the site for the form you need to use and further explanations on how to obtain it. We use "snail" mail rather than fax. Don't want a credit card number lying around somewhere. The turnaround for USA is about 6-8 weeks. Also, filling in the required form will make you realize if you have enough data to do your research. The birth certificate will give you the address of the child at time of birth, her parents names & address, her father's occupation and who reported the birth. All children born from 1864 onward had to have their birth registered. If not done there was a penalty. The 1864 list, D/T distrust of English and fee, is not always accurate as to birth dates. When the parents got their money together, they registered the birth. To keep from a fine, they just adjusted dates to suit their needs. For several years marriages & deaths had no penalty so are not always there for the latter part of the 19th century. Have used the GRO for many of our 1864 onward records without problem Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood, OH ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-WEXFORD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
No, all the data is at the site. The fee & form which asks for information will have what is needed. Using a credit card will give you the current exchange. Therefore the trying to figure out the euro exchange and getting correct money order is eliminated. Now, if he can find the data on familysearch.com, all the better. We have used it for some orders but find there is no difference in the fee. However, be SURE it is your ancestor. The numerous given & surnames listed at times for a single civil parish can get you an incorrect certificate. The last one we ordered in late 2010, had about $12. charged to our card. Even when we are in Ireland and at the local GRO, we have NEVER paid such a small fee as 3 Euros. If there is way to do it with postage, please advise. Currently, I have 8 (births, marriages deaths) to get certificates for our family records. Delay was D/T lack of data which we now have. Not going over this year so would love to be able to reduce the stack for 24 Euros - about $35 Mary Ellen ----------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-WEXFORD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
