Hi List, a newbie to this List, I am Michael McAllister and seeking information on a Norah Foley who was supposed to have been born in the Gorey area back in <1865> according to the 1901 census of Dublin. She married Nicholas O'Kelly in 1884 in Dublin. Her age relates to this year of birth according to that census. We know only that on her marriage certificate to Nicholas it was recorded that her father's name was James. I have a birth record from Gorey of an Honor FOLEY but this record states her father's name as Philip. This family lived in the Concribbon, (presume Cronecribbin) area of Coolgraney (presume Coolgreany) area of Gorey. Any advice, information would be most extremely welcomed. Many thanks, Michael

Michael~       If her birth year was 1865 she has a Civil Birth Certificate.  You can order it from the General Records Office County Roscommon.  They have ALL the counties civil records and you can use your credit card.  Just GOOGLE that GRO.  On the tool bar far RT is births.  Click.  You will be taken to that part of the site for the form you need to use and further explanations on how to obtain it.  We use "snail" mail rather than fax.  Don't want a credit card number lying around somewhere.  The turnaround for USA is about 6-8 weeks.  Also, filling in the required form will make you realize if you have enough data to do your research.        The birth certificate will give you the address of the child at time of birth, her parents names & address, her father's occupation and who reported the birth.  All children born from 1864 onward had to have their birth registered.  If not done there was a penalty.  The 1864 list, D/T distrust of English and fee,  is not always accurate as to birth dates.  When the parents got their money together, they registered the birth.  To keep from a fine, they just adjusted dates to suit their needs.         For several years marriages & deaths had no penalty so are not always there for the latter part of the 19th century.         Have used the GRO for many of our  1864 onward records without problem Mary Ellen Chambers Lakewood, OH
