    1. [IRL-WEXFORD] Researching: Parle, Meyler (Myler), Furlong
    2. Bob Kreitler
    3. I am researching: Parle, Meyler and to some degree Furlong -- all from Wexford, Ireland. The Parles attended Rathangan Catholic Church and lived in Gibberwell and Duncormick area. My g-g-grandparents were Patrick J. Parle (1855-1916) and Margaret Ellen Meyler Parle (1857-1945). They came to the US in around 1883 and settled in East St Louis, IL. Patrick's parents were Michael Parle (1832-?) and Anastasia Furlong Parle. Margaret's parents were Nicholas Meyler (abt 1833-1916) and Ellen Quirke Meyler (?-1908). Thanks! 1. Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] IRL-WEXFORD Digest, WILLOUGHBY
    2. Laurence Barber
    3. Thanks Peggy! The info was new - but now I'm confused . . . The Mormon IGI has a Charles Willoughby, son of John Willoughby married to Sarah Langrill, daughter of William Langril under "Marriage Place: Civil Records, Misc., Ireland. (That could well be the same reference as to what you sent me.) . . . . However, I have a copy of a Marriage Registration of the same names --- Charles Willoughby (son of John) of Kilaney, Co. Wicklow and Sarah Langrill (dau. of William) of Cappagh, Aughrim, Co. Wcklow, married at Ballinatone (Ballynatone) COI Church, Co. Wicklow; 30 January, 1849. And now you've sent a note of the same names and date (albeit 1848) but the marriage is at Ballycanew (Wexford). Surely there can't be that many - or even two, different Charles and Sarah's being married on a Jan. 30th in either 1848 or 1849 (?!) For years, I thought 'my' Willoughbys were from Gorey parish in Wexford. Griffiths shows a John Willoughby at Ballingarry Upper , Kilnahue (1853) on the Gorey side of Holyfort, and a William Langrill on the NW side of Holyfort at Annagh Upper. I assumed these might be the John and William (respective parents) of my Charles and Sarah, who immigrated to Canada after 1849 and before the 1851 Census in Eramosa Twp., Wellington Co., ON. But then a cousin in Co. Kildare sent me the Kilavaney, Cappagh, Ballinatone, etc., Co. Wicklow references about a month ago. So I'd revised my research accordingly. Further, there is the possibility that the above John Willoughby of Kilavaney, Wexford married a Sarah Willoughby of Wexford - so perhaps my Wexford Willoughbys thinking still holds, if I 'go back' to a previous generation or more. Could you clarify for me your Ballycanew information, given the above possibility that the Mormon and Wicklow and Ballycanew records are referring to the same Charles and Sarah? Thanks so much. 1. [IRL-WEXFORD] BARRINGTON baptisms and marriages
    2. Joyce
    3. I have been trying to find the following baptisms without success. LUCY BARRINGTON about 1840 ELIZABETH BARRINGTON about 1837 (daughter of James) JAMES BARRINGTON about 1791 I am also seeking the marriage of JAMES BARRINGTON to ELIZABETH (?) most likely late 1820s/early 1830s, and the baptisms of their children. I suspect that they were baptised at Ballycanew or Gorey or at another church in that area. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Joyce

    1. [IRL-WEXFORD] Pre 1864 BDM Records for Wexford/All Ireland
    2. Mary Ellen Chambers
    3.       Civil Records for both Protestant & Catholic began in 1864.  However, about 1845, Civil marriage records for Protestants only started       Civil birth records after 1864 carried a penalty if not complied with.  Therefore, for the first few years, the dates for Catholics may not be EXACTLY correct.  There was a distrust of the English government and being poor, to avoid a fine they could not afford, the dates were recorded which eliminated the penalty. Marriages & deaths post 1864 did not initially carry a penalty.  I was told by another researcher on the IRELAND roots list, that within a decade there were penalties attached to marriages & deaths also.       Pre 1864 one must seek sacramental records.  Many of these have been lost over the the years but many do exist.  Most start about 1800 t0 1815, depending on the particular church. For a fee, you could try Wexford Heritage.  We were fortunate to obtain the records for Rathangan Parish which was put on line at the IGP website.  Also, the grave sites for the cemetery at Duncormick.  This particular church which is now Catholic, changed denominations as historical events transpired.  We have only those stones which were readable.  There were many broken stones behind the church which people have been trying to repair and replace.. 3. Hi Tracy, I can't answer your questions, but I know you have Boyce branches in Co. Waterford where my 2nd great grandfather was born in 1810 and his son ended up in Bannow, Co. Wexford married to a Browne where they had my grandfather in Brandane in 1870, the connection perhaps coming from military service with one of the Boyce's. 2. Happy New Year Cathy, I don't want to jump in on your request to Keith, but I think this info is what you might want... John Woodbyrne Married Margaret Doyle the 2nd of February 1845 in the Kilanerin Church. Witnesses were Gregory Doyle and Mary Doyle. I also have the Baptismal information (names, dates, Godparents) for 7 or 8 children, if you'd like them. I have several other Wexford Woodbyrnes and a few Wicklow Woodbyrnes, if you're interested. Regards, Peggy Leonard You wrote: Dear Keith, Would you mind if I asked you to look in the "Families of Co. Wexford" for my family name? Woodbyrne, also Woodburn(e). They were in the Gorey area: townlands were Lacken (Lackan), Bolacreen (no longer in existence). Other Woodbyrnes were at Pallas, and Annagh. My grt grandfather was born at Lacken in Jan. 1846, firstborn of John Woodbyrne and Margaret Doyle. Children are all baptized at St. Michaels in Gorey. Some of the earlier church records are at the R.C. church at Kilanerin. Earlier Woodburns (also Woodburne) were located in Co. Wicklow (only a few miles away), in Ballinaclash, and Ballymoney, and Bally kine. Many are buried in the old cemetery at Whaley Abbey, Co. Wicklow. Many thanks in advance for your time spent. 2. Happy New Year to All I read with intestesr  about missing the give and take of these lists,  That is where I looked for the "off beat" interesting things that people know but are considered off-topic by some soem lists.  I remember one very active exchange that took place when I asked about my Norwegian gtandfather and my mother having skin that tanned very dark.  Her mother was a blonde, blue-eyed Swede. My mother and her father had hazel eyes.  That led into a wonderful exchange about how Belgian people moved to Norway to work and there was intermarriage and there are many darker pigmented skinned, hazel eyed people  in Norway as a result of it.  My O'Neil grandfather, when I asked, why our name  was one 'L" and not two, replied that they took it away because someone along the line, stole a pig.  Now, I have wondered for years if he was kidding with me ( whiich he was known to have done.:}) or if people were punished with such penalties.  Still searching for that answer.:} I strongly believe genealogy is not just filling in blanks and pasting pictures, it w ouldn't include how they lived, what they did for work and play, who in the family can I thank for the red hair, favorite recipes, family y traditio ns, favorite books, music, art;  sports.  etc.:} It is amazing how much trivia is known by people who are more than willing to part with it and you never can get it from the dry dob, dod, bp, marr etc.  What folk lore do they know, or superstitions,  What are now called superstitions could have been reality in there time or times before. Just the thoughts of an octogenarian thinking.:} Barbara in MA Sent: Friday, December 31, 2010 11:48:03 AM Subject: IRL-WEXFORD Digest, Vol 5, Issue 107 Today's Topics:    1.
