I'm trying to see if there is any connection[I feel there could be] with a Catherine Waters who appears to be the husband of a Thomas Potts Handcock from Co WEX[Whitechurch/Kilmokea Parish].They had a son bapt. in Ontario{Upper Canada]in Feb 1827 and a daughter a couple of years later. Thomas Potts Handcock was in that parish in the early months of 1825 and has been traced in Canada in July that year. They had a d. later on Olivia Maria.Catherine appears to have died as TPH married in 1838 in Quebec Sarah Dunne -widow Killett?-when she died in New York in 1854 records show she was born in IRL From the IGI for Co Wex there show both Dunne and Waters family in that county.Clutching at straws, John D Rose in Auckland New Zealand -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Alan and Mary Cooper Sent: Saturday, 14 July 2007 5:42 a.m. To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] HELPING OTHERS List, I have to share Cara's sentiments and there are many who take and don't give back. The web gets a lot of obvious criticism but this linking of our common interest in Wexford will eventually bear fruit for all of us. We are fortunate living in Wales and can get over to Dublin and Wexford every year - some times more than once but it would appear that our colonial friends (provocative?) have better access to some records than we have access to. BUT isn't it interesting that there are very few people currently from Wexford - with the exception of Cara's pal (who I hope is in good health) - who subscribe. However in our own research I have been helped by many locals just by going there and chatting. Whilst I am on my hobby horse I must complain that there are so many websites, groups, interested parties, carpetbaggers, (no names - no pack drill) that to subscribe to all, is a full time job. 3. I came across these bits in my research. Thought I would share as it might be of use to someone here. The place referred to is Albany Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Clement F. Heverly's 1885 Addendum to his "History of Albany Township 1800-1885" - Stephen Murphy, a native of County Wexford, in September, 1841, settled the place now occupied by his son Adam. (It states that Stephen married an Anastasia (Anna) O'Neill in County Wexford ) Martin Berry, a native of County Wexford, purchased the farm now owned by his son, John, in 1841, and subsequently moved in his family. Patrick North came in about 1841, and Thomas Cullen in about 1850. -Leigh

    3. Having not lived in the past Beth the simple question you have asked could only be speculated on, because who would say they went to the Fever Hospital or the Workhouse except if you were able to locate a death register it would say Workhouse of Fever Hospital, it would be an impossible task for anyone to think that all persons sick with the fever made it to any hospital. But I must admit it is a great question, on who went to the Fever Hospitals etc, as many of the so called uppers of the area actually died in Fever Hospitals side by side with the poor and also the same for Workhouses. Where were they married that holds the bigger clue as to where in location you may or may not find a burial for her, allowing that Patrick would have been the person most likely to be erect a memorial how long after she died did he leave with the children. Also another thing you must take into account was if they could afford a headstone, and many females were taken home to be buried in a family plot so perhaps she is back with her parents in a plot. Just some thoughts for you to speculate on. Do you know their townland? 3. Hi - I'm replying to the message below: interested in what anyone might know about this Catherine Nolan/Nowlan. My great grandfather, Michael Nolan, came from Kiltealy, Ballycrystal, Templeshanbo. His parents, my gggrandparents, were Nicholas Nolan and Bridget O'Neill, though I have no verification of this and don't have birth, marriage of death dates on either of them. Michael and his siblings seem to be born between 1800-1820. I know there were a number of children: James, Ellen (married a Corcorhan), Michael, I think a Catherine and others. Michael came to America in 1853 and his brother in 1854. I don't know when or where Michael married Margaret (Mayme) Lydon Solon/Soholan/Solan. Is there any connection with the Catherine Nolan/Nowlan who married Edward Murphy? I would appreciate any other information available on any of these family members. Thanks. I appreciate any help and am happy to offer help whenever I can. kc > My Murphy family came from Templeludrigan/Ballyanne... > Edward Murphy married Catherine Nolan/Nowlan > They had 5 daughters > Catherine > Bridget > Margaret > Honora > ???? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beth McBride" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 13, 2007 8:45 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-WEXFORD] FEVER HOSPITAL MURPHY-COWMAN > Hi Kay, > My MURPHYS: > Patrick MURPHY married Mary COWMAN in 1834 in Wexford, most likely, > Enniscorthy. I do have one or two others doing Beatty and we have been in touch and I will continue to share with those persons.
