our daniel carey married winifred scanlon- actually they are my husbands family.(his maternal great grandparents) the crazy part is all my life i knew i had scanlon relatives somehow- but you know the irish- they let you know "this is cousin so and so- third cousin, eighteen times removed" and i had a greataunt who was a genealogists dream of this ability to say these things properly! so at bridge club, church, school, wakes, parties etc i met many old ladies and men who were so and so- #cousin x removed. well who cared????? not i, especially not with bess and marguerite to tell me. guess what- they never wrote it down for me! and i never thought of life without them! soooo- i knew about scanlons from big woods(marlboro, monmouth co.,nj.usa) where the tanseys were from and so on. given fact they were family. in may, we called my husb.s aunt for her 84th bday and she says- "oh mary and i exchanged cards again for our bdays as we were both born the same day". i said "really- who is this, not a cousin i know"- she said-"no-its my mothers niece- mary scanlon"- well i got all excited (and didnt know winifred scanlon had been lens ggm) and said="Marge- we have scanlons in the tansey family"- she says- "yeah- mary married a tansey from big woods" real nonchalant like. god here i have been trying to find out all this stuff and it was within a phone call. think my m-i-l would tell me that?????? nooooooooo- will not discuss any family names or anything w/ her son! and since we dont speak any longer, no info for me! so ask the oldies while you can cause tomorrow comes faster than a bolt of lightning- just thought an interesting aside on how to locate the elusive ones. linda
