    1. [Irl-Westmeath] Belated introduction
    2. John P. Barlow
    3. My apologies, but I've been unable in the last several months to be very involved with genealogy; hence this late response to the earlier request to introduce ourselves. Although I had great-great-grandparents who lived in and emigrated from Ireland (Antrim and KIldare, I believe), they were of Scottish ancestry. My wife (Jane Barlow), has native Irish ancestry on her father's side, and those ancestors of hers are my reason for subscribing to this list. They lived in County Westmeath before emigrating to the U.S. (Connecticut) in the early 1880s. Her maternal grandmother, Jane Smyth, was brought to the U.S. as an 18 year old in late 1881 or early 1882, with her seven brothers and sisters, by her newly widowed mother, Catherine Conlon Smyth. The Smyths were farmers who lived in the townland of Tubberclare. Her paternal grandfather, William P. Farrell, was brought to the U.S. in, we believe, 1881, also in his late teen years. We don't yet know for certain in which townland his family lived but, from oral family tradition, we believe they were friends/neighbors of the Smyths. As must be obvious, we still have many questions to answer. John Barlow
