Hello listers, I'm new to the Westmeath list.My names of interest are RUDDY and MEARA. There was a James RUDDY, retired soldier, in Clonmellon in the 1850's (in Griffiths LV) who seems to be my gg grandfather. His son William emigrated to Australia where he married Margaret MEARA, also from Ireland.They then moved to NZ in 1867. They were following the goldrushes! Without much success however! MELVYON is an unusual family name that keeps popping up in generations as a middle name- its significance may be a maiden name some time earlier. My Husband and I are coming to Ireland for a quick visit in Sept so I am trying to have as much info as I can before I get there. Any help, advice or possible links much appreciated.
