    1. [Irl-Westmeath] KILCASH
    2. HBGillcash
    3. Hello, I joined this list shortly after I found a reference to KILCASH as a surname not in Sligo (as I had been told the name might be limited to) but in Westmeath. A John and William Kilcash are listed in the 1796 Flaxgrowers Growers List. John had one loom/wheel in Parish Rathgorrow and William had another in St. Mary's. My relative AUGUSTUS KILCASH appears on a Loyalist Forces Muster Roll in the colonies in 1780. I have had trouble finding his origins beyond a general reference that KILCASH or McGiolla Chaise is an Irish name. John and William are my first links to the KILCASH surname being used in a specific place. I am hoping, by tracing this name, I might find a reference to Augustus, his branch, and how he came to the US. Is anyone on the list familiar with the KILCASH name? Thanks! Holly Gillcash (Gillcash=modern equivalent)

    3. Hi Peter I was sent a print out by a contact in Westmeath,it lists all of the GORRYs Christened in Tubber Rosemount between abt.1829/1880s and also gives the parents and sponsors. I found all of the children born to my gr.grandparents,William GORRY and Bridget Keenaghan on the print out. I don't know how you go about getting one,but they can be obtained. Here's a wee story with a twist. My son recently married a fine girl called Bridget BERGERON from Montreal. Her Father was adopted by the French Canadian Bergeron family, his family name was DUFFY. Her Mother was of a Ukrainian family called REVENCO. She married my son and became Bridget McGONIGAL !! what could be more Irish ?? Cheers Frank McGonigal Ont.Canada. 1. [Irl-Westmeath] Dignam - Albany, NY
    2. sisk
    3. I am new to this list and am researching the DIGNAM family. My great, great grandfather was Michael Dignam. The name was later changed to Dignum. Michael was the son of John and Ann(maiden name unknown) Dignam and the nephew of James and Ann Fox (Wales) Dignam, who also lived in Albany. I appears that the families emigrated in the mid 1830s. Michael's siblings were James, Ann, John, Thomas and Patrick. Michael married Ellen HAM (county unknown) in 1852 in Albany. Their children were Emily Jane, William John, James J., John Patrick, Thomas Francis and Mary. Ellen died in 1866 and Michael married Bridget EAGAN ( county unknown ) the following year. Their children were Elizabeth, Ann and Edward John. Michael was a coachman for the wealthy Van Rensselaer family for many years. During the years following the closing of the manor house, he was employed as a driver. He died in 1899. I have been unable to trace any of his siblings. Although they appear in some Albany records, they are lost in later years. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. I have contacted the Westmeath Heritage Center, but they have not found the family in the records that have been indexed at this time. Lynne Sisk [email protected]

    3. Hi and welcome to Melissa and greetings for the New Year to all. I have just returned from holidays by the sea at St.Leonards Victoria, nice and restful. My Grandparents Thomas Connell and Mary Wallace both came to Australia from neighbouring towns in Westmeath - his parents were Patrick Connell and Catherine Maher hers were Peter Wallace and Mary Donoghue both fathers were listed as Farmers on my gp's marriage cert. I also know that the Wallace family address in Ireland was Coolnahay,Slanemore,Mullingar,County Westmeath and that Mary's sister Elizabeth Wallace died there on 5.12.1961. Hoping against hope that someone out there might help me. 3. Hi Dan, I don't have a death record for Jane. I estimate her death date from the cancelled land records which show the passing of the land from Jane who was listed in the original Griffith's Valuation to her son Thomas WHITE in the late 1880's. The death certificate however would not have her parents names on it. This has never been a requirement for death certificates in Ireland. They will only tell you who was present at the time of the death and this could be anyone who was there at the time.
