    3. Hi, Yes, that very well could be the parish that your ancestors were married in. St. Peter's is next door. You could write to them and request a search. If they are as nice as they were in St. Peter's they let me view the records...of course they were never out of their hands. But, I'm sure they would do a search for you, as you have the date and names..etc. Good Luck. 3. A search of the URL below turns up several Lawrence Summers (see example below) and several Ellen Kirwan. None seem to match your dates, but at least you can locate areas in Ireland where the surname existed. If their first child was born in 1867, your marriage date would likely be 1866 or 1867. If I had to guess, I would say they were married in England. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp FamilySearchT International Genealogical Index v4.01 British Isles IGI Record Select record to download - (50 maximum) Laurince SOMMERS Sex: M Event(s): Christening: 13 Nov 1838 Askeaton, Limerick, Ireland Parents: Father: John SOMMERS Mother: Bridget NESTOR Source Information: Batch number: Dates Source Call No. Type Printout Call No. Type C701131 1829-1881 0926138 Film NONE Sheet: ----- Original Message ----- From: JOSEPH BISPHAM <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 21, 2001 10:13 AM Subject: [Irl-Westmeath] kirwan/summers > I am reposting the following surnames as ,despite paying for a search at the Heritage Centre, I am completely at a standstill with the following; ELLEN KIRWAN( KIRVAN) and LAWRENCE SUMMERS. they were married, maybe in Ireland, someimye before 1867 when their first son,JOHN, was born in lIVERPOOL. 2. I am new to the list, but I am hoping that someone can comment on the frequency of the surname Spalding or Spaulding in Westmeath. I am trying to search my wife's family for our newborn son, James. So far, I have only discovered that her great, great, great grandfather, James Spaulding, was born in County Westmeath on 8 September 1819 to Patrick and Bridget Spaulding. He and his parents arrived in New York, New York on 19 August 1839, and they then moved to Boston. Does anyone know if this name is common in Westmeath, or does it exist in only a few parishes? From the IGI, I was able to find a John Spalding, who was married in 1866 at Roman Catholic Chapel, St. Mary's Parish By Athlone, Westmeath. I am wondering if this may be their parish. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, since I am new to this. Thanks, Jim Bayard Wareham, Massachusetts

    3. I wanted to report my earlier request. I have been told that someone visited Ireland and found that these families were from Horseleap. What Catholic Church records would be available and what church should I search for? From the Maps I find Clara or Ardnorcher as the parishes. John McGinnis married Mary Gaffney bef. 1844 in West Meath. >They had 5 children before immigrating to US. > >Mary born abt. 1844 >Michael born abt. 1846 >Rose born abt. 1846 (I know same year as Michael) >Bridget born abt. 1849 >Ann born?? > >If anyone has any info. or has suggestions on where to look I'd appreciate >it. 1. [Irl-Westmeath] New member-RUDDY & MEARA search
    2. Thompson
    3. Hello listers, I'm new to the Westmeath list.My names of interest are RUDDY and MEARA. There was a James RUDDY, retired soldier, in Clonmellon in the 1850's (in Griffiths LV) who seems to be my gg grandfather. His son William emigrated to Australia where he married Margaret MEARA, also from Ireland. They then moved to NZ in 1867. They were following the goldrushes! Without much success however! MELVYON is an unusual family name that keeps popping up in generations as a middle name- its significance may be a maiden name some time earlier. My Husband and I are coming to Ireland for a quick visit in Sept so I am trying to have as much info as I can before I get there. Any help, advice or possible links much appreciated. Maureen, from Auckland, New Zealand
