    1. [Irl-Westmeath] Looking for Townland Maps of Westmeath
    2. Greetings, Do any of you know where I can get townland maps of Westmeath? Although the library here in Dallas has the maps for other counties, they do not own the ones for Westmeath. As far as I can tell, LDS does not have them in either microfilm or fiche. They do list a print copy, but it can be used only in the library in SLC, and I can't get there. Specifically, I need the parishes of Ardnurcher or Horseleap Ballyloughloe Bunown Durrow Enniscoffey Kilkenny West Noughaval St. Feighins I'm researching my CORRIGAN family from Westmeath and, until I can get a sense of the proximity of one townland to another in these parishes, I won't know if I'm making the proper connections. I'd appreciate any leads you can offer. Sincerely, Lynn Tuohy

    2. I have obtained a copy of Eduardo Coughlan's book on interlibrary loan. There are Claffeys in the index, and also Brackens. The book is in Spanish which obviously requires an ability to read that language in order to understand the text, but the outlines of family milestones are fairly easy to translate, and a Spanish-English dictionary helps a great deal. Let me know if you have an interest in a particular surname and I'll be glad to look it up in the index for you. If you want to initiate an interlibrary loan, the title is "Los Irlandeses En La Argentina, Su Actuacion y Descendencia" byEduardo Coghlan, published in Buenos Aires in 1987. 3. I suggest you check the book Los irlandeses en Argentina by Eduardo Coghlan. Many times reading my mails I check this book and I found out some connections between the families you are looking for and the family with the same name that came to Buenos Aires. In many cases I suppose is difficult to link one family to other, but in other cases one can see both families repeating family names, like in the case of the Bracken with the name Martin Bracken, others giving some details like the place where the emigrant came from and this can work like the first step to locate where your ancestor was born. I hope this help Alberto

    3. Renee......check Paget's Commercial Directory 1820 and Slater's Commercial Directory of Ireland for years 1846, 1870, 1881, 1894. You might dig up some interesting information about the hotel which may lead you further into the family. Also write to the Mullingar Library and see if they can put you in touch with a local Historical Society which would have information on local establishments. There's a hotel right smack in the middle of Mullingar...on the main street....called The Granville Arms I think......who knows, it may be YOUR hotel. 2. stephen cook
    3. Hello Listers I posted a query regarding Patrick Kenny some time ago and have since found that his wife was called Bridget Richards. They and their family left West Meath between 1849-54 and settled in Liverpool. They were :- Patrick Kenny - Head (born about 1811) Bridget Kenny [nee Richards] - Spouse(born about 1815) Edward Kenny - Son (born about 1841) Daniel Kenny - Son (born about 1845) Bridget Kenny - Daughter (born about 1849) According to British Census records they were all born in West Meath. There was a further son William Kenny (born in Liverpool about 1854). Their trades in Liverpool included dock porter, carter and public baker. There appears to have been a fair amount of expertise and knowledge of horses. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who might have any further information (particularly the family's town or village). Best wishes Stephen Cook (Dr) ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
